There are several very good articles here at NGA. I'm not talking about posts or replies or ideas, I'm talking about articles like this one: https://garden.org/learn/artic...

Or this one, which will appear on your home page if you opt to have the Main Article appear:
https://garden.org/learn/artic...

How great would it be to have a Print button with these articles? You know, the type that when you click it, it opens up your print dialog box? I'm pretty sure it's an easy addition. If it requires a lot of programming, then I can understand not doing it, but if it's easy....????? Crossing Fingers!

Would be nice. Thanks for considering it!

I just right click on the article for print options already available on my laptop. I don't have a printer but I save things either as a PDF or I save them on a USB stick. Easy.

I think she is asking for a pop-up where it strips any extras like side links/info and the posting box and threads at the bottom and just prints the article.

Oh. I just get rid of all that with my 'snipping tool' and then print. I just draw a box around the part I want to print.

Exactly Sue. You click the print icon, the dialog opens, you click print and Bob's your uncle. It's for when you want something on paper.

I can do all that other stuff too, but you have to select what you want printed or saved first. The print icon does exactly what you wrote--it's the text of the article only and you don't have to go through all those extra steps everyone's listing. So easy peasy! Hope we can do it. Would be very useful.

AND, you have the option in that pop-up to save as a PDF too, again, without having to select anything first.

Doesn't using "reader mode" help by removing the extra items?

I believe reader mode is a feature available in some browsers and not others, and personally, I like seeing all the peripherals! But I don't want to print them when I print out an article.

Really, the little printer icon is a very nice and simple solution and one that's available in most websites today. The picture below shows an example--see the little printer button at the bottom, center? Easy peasy!

My assumption was that you could toggle reader mode on just for printing after you've looked at the peripherals, then toggle it off again. It's in Chrome, Firefox and Safari browsers.

Thanks Sue but the whole point of having a print button / icon is to bypass all those extra things that really are workarounds. Having a print button means no need for workarounds!

I did the right click and print thing again just now. There was no workaround needed. What printed out was the article and related comments - nothing more.

Rather than trying to change the site to make it easier for you, why not do what most folks do and just mark the article in question as one of your favorites - bookmark it so you can find it easily. Shrug!

Hi Greene.

I'm so glad that works well for you. Different browsers and different computers work differently though and what works well for you might not work well for another member. Doing that on my system, for example, prints out all the pictures and links, including the heading and banner and, as you mention, all the comments, without an option to edit.

My suggestion isn't because I want to change the site to make it easier for me, but to add a little something that will be nice for everyone. It's a very common feature on many websites. If it's an easy feature to include and @dave feels it would be a plus, then that would be nice. It's just a suggestion and I'm thankful for all the input that others have provided. Lovey dubby

I am a fan of printer-friendly pages, but it's not a simple request and I'm afraid I'm not in a season where I can devote time to this sort of thing. There are browser extension you can use to simplify printing web pages, or you can copy it into Word and remove the headers. That's not a perfect solution but it does work. Smiling

I copy recipes into word doc's all the time and save them to a folder on my laptop; I print out the recipe when I'm ready to cook whatever it is ... same can be done with the articles.

I know some people would just bring their laptop to the kitchen and pull up the recipe to read from the screen but I'm old and blonde and I'd probably spill something on the keyboard. Green Grin!

LOL Lin! Yes, I've been copying the articles I want to print to a Word doc, editing, formatting and then printing for a while now. It's cumbersome. Thus the request--I thought others might be in the same position.

@dave, thanks for considering it! I hope you'll keep it in mind in case you may find yourself in the season at some point.

Thanks again for all you do so that so many can learn from and enjoy this site! It's always greatly appreciated by everyone, especially me. Thumbs up

@plantladylin @plantmanager Good old Word is good enough for me. I, too, have a recipe file on the computer and if I need a recipe, I just pull it up and print it. I remember back in the last century I had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the world of computers, but now that I have one, I can't be without it.
