We have a long thread labeled Harbor Freight Greenhouse in the Greenhouse Forum where you can follow Dave's build, my build and Eric's enhancments on our HF GH. There is also a great blog that shows enhancements, tricks and tips that make this a very sound, very wonderful structure. It is a wonderful greenhouse and has held up for me.

(This thread starts out with trying to decide which gh to buy but soon jumps right into HF Greenhouse)

To make it sturdy enough to survive, be sure to read and make the changes necessary. When it's well built they are very good greenhouses. If you build it according to instructions and do nothing else, it will end up blowing away and breaking up.

I spent too much on my first greenhouse, which is a Growing Dome. The next one will probably be the Harbor Freight one. One greenhouse just wasn't enough space for me.

The Houzz website also has greenhouse gardening threads and they had a huge thread on how to construct the HF greenhouse so it would last and perform well.

Cuzzx: One short tip. Make certain it is duly anchored to the ground! The wind will blow a greenhouse away in seconds if it not anchored to the ground! Drive down into the ground at all corners, some material that you can screw the greenhouse too. Perforated angle iron, hardwood stakes, whatever. Cheers!

Not sure what the sun's orientation is from this photo, but make sure it gets a good amount of sun if those trees cast a lot of shade depending on the time of the day. If it gets real hot where you are in the summer and you plan on using it during the summer, morning and early afternoon sun is good with some shade in the later part of the afternoon. If you plan on using it during the Fall, Winter and Spring, place it where it will get maximum sun...you can always use shade cloth in the summer.

I agree Space is always a concern but sunlight is necessary, too. So orientation is important. We get sun on my GH in the winter only as it sits under shade trees. But that's okay for my use because I use it in the winter for plant protection. The leaves fall off the trees, the sun changes in the horizon and it gets very warm on a sunny winter day. Thumbs up My GH sits on a square deck. But it is not square on the deck. I angled it to get the best sun.

What kind of base are you using??

thinking about just putting my 4x4s on the ground , then building a one foot wall on all sides . the door opening will go to the ground. that way i will not hit my head plus it will give more room on the sides. will insulate the wood section at the base. will use 12x12 square stepping stones for the floor. one of my problems is if you want to call it that. the left side is the biggest area but the neighbor on the north side is my uncle and we help each other a lot with the grass and other things , so i don't want to block the view between us, plus i back my truck in through that area to get to the sheds. thinking about the area between shed A and fence B on the right side. it will get sun from 9am until it goes down.
the sun comes up on the right and down on the left , viewing the photo as is .

since I can not return my shed because I had it to long thinking about a second and putting them together to make one that would be 12 wide and 8 long under one roof.
or ends together and it would be 16 long and 6 wide .

The blog mentions a guy who put two 10 x 12's together. It's been done. Read about it there.

What about extending that paver stone floor a bit and bolting your boards down to the pavers? Then the walls to the boards?

edited to say that drilling pavers isn't easy. They crack a lot. I wonder if a simple cement foundation wall would be better. It's easier to bolt into cement.

I was wondering the same thing!
I found this bit of info in Gardenersworld.com

"Orientation

If you want to grow crops all year round, it's best to line up the ridge of the structure to run east-west, as this will maximise light during the winter. It will also help it to heat up more quickly after cold nights. If you only intend to grow summer crops, aligning the ridge north-south is preferable as it gives an equal amount of sun to each side and helps to reduce overheating on the hottest days."

Our daughter who lives near Austin has had her greenhouse kit sitting on her porch for a long time. We may go visit and build it for her. She needs it before the weather really gets cold so she can overwinter her tropicals in it.

I can't remember which model it was, but it was a Palram. I think it's pretty low cost and small, but she doesn't have much room in her small yard. It shouldn't be a big job to get it functional.
