This nice easy perennial is native from southern New York into Georgia to Louisiana to southeast Kansas to Illinois & Indiana & Ohio. Its two-lipped, round-top, purplish-blue flowers that look sort of like skulls or helmets are covered by fine plant hair. The square stems, members of the Mint Family have square stems) are hairy. I have not seen this species sold by conventional garden centers, but it is sold by some specialty nurseries and by some native plant nurseries as: North Creek Nursery in southeast PA, New Moon Nursery in southern New Jersey, and Prairie Moon Nursery in southern Minnesota.
