Caught my eye. We have few honeybees here. Just a steady decline.

I got shown how to take better pics with an iPhone last week.
Thought I would see if the tips worked.

Took these today.

I saw a similar article about this on the Newsweek site. This might just work! However, as one person commented to the story, it doesn't do anything about the basic problem of excessive exposure of bees to very toxic pesticides and other human-caused chemicals that makes them more susceptible to other things like the mites and viruses in the first place..

I am seeing lots of honeybees, bumble bees and wasps at the moment. The honeybees and bumble bees prefer the passion flowers while the wasps prefer the crown of thorns and the passion flowers to some degree.

That's cool! It's raining again here, which doesn't exactly encourage the bees to come around.

That is a lovely anole. I have lots of them in my yard but I don't think I have ever seen one with markings like that.

Honey, it's a female green anole and we have them everywhere in the garden as there are lots of bugs and spiders to eat. The female has the white zig-zag line down the center of her back.

Mac interesting article on mushroom extract can build the immune system of bees to help save them .

Thanks gives hope for the bees to improve their populations.

Butterflies seem so fragile that we often wonder how they survive some of the weather extremes and the predators. The Monarch Butterfly is quite toxic so that is its way of dodging the bullet of the predators but the weather is even a bigger challenge. I always feel so fortunate when I see them and even more fortunate to find one sitting on a Coneflower!

This was only the 2nd photo I took with a new "point and shoot" camera and I was quite amazed and pleased because this Mute Swan was several hundred yards away on the Nashua River in southern New Hampshire. Hans Christian Andersen (Danish Author) once wrote about the "Ugly duckling" and would you believe that this is the beautiful bird he was talking about?

Another photo with the same camera I used for the Mute Swan photo is a newly fledged Great Horned Owl. It was not pleased that I had approached within 15-20 feet. It was clicking its beak to show its displeasure. I looked around and above to see an adult Owl that was a bit nervous so I exercised some good judgement and backed off. Adult Owls can be very aggressive and may strafe and even attack a human if too close to its offspring.
