Lovely! Lovey dubby

There's still a gazillion hummingbirds here and I still have to keep the feeders full of nectar. Dreams of more flowers someday!

Looks like I'm going to have to break down and wash some windows! *Blush* Hilarious! Hilarious!

I haven't given up on trying to get some group shots. Not there yet on getting a good one!

I keep trying to get a shot of a male RT that is here. It has a white spot smack on top of it's head. You can only see it when you can see the top of his head or part of the top of his head. If hummingbirds weren't hard enough to get shots of, now I have to try to get a shot when the bird is at least slightly below my eye level. Grumbling Grumbling

Oh wow Kurt! That is amazing and yes that's about the same size as what I am seeing on this hummingbird. The thing is, I've been seeing this on this particular bird for at least a week solid. If it were pollen I would think it would be gone by now. Your thoughts?

it keeps visiting the the same type of pollen covered flower/s

most likely a large trumpet shaped flower , I think mine was getting it from a trumpet vine , Campsis radicans

Very intriguing Kurt. I'm going to do my best to examine this one more closely. It will be easier to catch it in the binoculars than the camera so I'm going to see if I can ID it as pollen.

I think that bird is a Woodhouse's Scrub Jay Asa.

Kurt, this photo is so beautiful. It's like a professional portrait. Well done!

Christine, I'd say that first picture is a very successful group shot!

Hilarious! Hilarious!

I have a particular fondness for Scrub jays. At one time, we had a pair of Eastern Scrub jays who were quite friendly. They would land on us. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

I love the pretty Hummingbirds! Lovey dubby It's been a month since I've seen a hummingbird, I figure they flew off to someplace where it's a bit cooler, without the mid 90's and high humidity!

Asa, that Western Scrub Jay is beautiful! Lovey dubby

All types of birds have been scarce around here lately but I did spot 4 hawks flying around the neighborhood this afternoon. Two landed at the top of the neighbors oak tree; one took off right away but the other hung around awhile, just surveying the neighborhood from it's perch. The first photo with the two also has some flying insect in the picture. Smiling

Wonderful photos Lin!!! Hurray! That's got to be a large flying insect. Compare it with the size of the bird & it's wow. Blinking

Ann, I'm not sure what it was but I zoomed in and cropped the photo, so that insect may not have been quite as large as it looks in the photo. Smiling It might be one of the large dragonflies that we've seen all summer, possibly the Carolina Saddlebags: http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74...

@flaflwrgrl - thank you for the ID. I appreciate that. I'm pretty terrible with taxonomy (be it with plants or animals). Mine's kind of binary: pretty or not pretty ;)

edit: in rethinking that, it might be: compelling or not compelling. That's more inclusive and really more accurate.

You are welcome Asa. With me, my curiosity demands that I figure it out most of the time.

The hoot owl was calling pretty close so I went and found him or her I don't know how to tell the difference. This one had a loud but low-deep call.
