AT LAST! I've waited five years to see this bloom, and it was totally worth it! I planted it in 2007 and was about to give up on it this year, but not now!

I have a few more that are just opening, and I'll have to catch up with them later. Does anyone else have any blooms to post today? If so, we'd love to see them!

I do Betty -- I do -- but I'm just recently here (from Cubits) and learning my way around. I also doubt that I have anything that you don't!! LOL! I was delighted to see that you have a new one that is new to me too -- Inside Job. Isn't it beautiful? I love the Ghios. Just wanted to make a confession to you -- I have saved some of your photographs of your Irises and occasionally use them for my desktop. They are SO beautiful. But right now my desktop photo is one of my own -- *Juke Box Hero* -- photo below.

Hi Mary Ann! Welcome! to ATP!

That is a beauty! I love the yellow haft area and beards in contrast to the rest of the bloom, and those ruffles -- to die for! Thanks so much for sharing with us, and I hope we'll see you over here often now!

And did you know that the first time you post a picture of a flower to our database, you'll receive an acorn -- and that goes for each time you add your first picture of any flower, tree, shrub, etc. And those acorns add up, and Dave and Trish make special offers for us to use our acorns. The first one was an ATP T-Shirt and coffee mug, and we purchased them with acorns -- including shipping, so no out-of-pocket expense! And there have been two or three other offers since then, including one last week for T-shirts. So if you have iris pictures please add them to our database and start building your acorn stash!

Hi Betty -- thanks for the nice welcome!! Smiling

I guess I will be here more often. I stayed on the Cubits Iris forums, but there didn't seem to be much activity there. I knew that the Cubits Iris group moved most everything to ATP, but when I came here to look, and couldn't find the Iris forums, and then just sort of forgot about it. In looking again this morning, I realized that I just didn't scroll far down enough on the Forums page to see that it's listed under the Plants section. Sheesh!!

I did post that photo of Juke Box Hero to the database this morning, and received a notice that it was accepted and that I had earned an acorn. But when I went to my profile, there was no acorn there. Where are they kept?

I do intend to add more photos to the database. I already had a few there that were moved over from Cubits. But I've been taking pictures like mad this Spring and sharing them with Blue Gardens on Cubits. I'll add them here, now that I know how to do it -- so thanks for the info on the other thread!

Today is the third day that the wind is just ripping through here. It makes it very difficult to take decent photographs -- hard to follow a moving target!! Rolling on the floor laughing

I think it hasn't been posted on your profile yet. It will appear as a separate box titled "Acorns" under your "Plant Database Contributions," and maybe it requires Dave or Trish setting it up for you so it may take a while -- but I would think it would show up sometime today. If not, there is a forum for problems and questions (it might be the one titled "Sandbox"), and you can ask there about it. But I'm pretty confident that it will appear soon. However, if you already had pictures that were moved over from Cubits you should have acquired some acorns already. So maybe you should inquire about it by tomorrow if it hasn't appeared yet.

Glad you found your way over here, and I do hope you continue to post pictures to our threads as well as the database -- we do love the pictures! And I know what you mean about the wind -- it was windy the other day and first I was out staking the taller stalks until I ran out of stakes, then running around trying to snap pictures as the stalks were swaying away -- I sway naturally myself, so it got pretty interesting... Hilarious!

Yup -- you're right about that Lucy. Smiling

Betty -- you're funny! And I do a little swaying myself, these days................. Thumbs down

Still haven't had any acorns show up on my profile, so I Tree-Mailed Dave. At least I hope I did -- several *Dave* options showed up in the suggestion box for the email address. Confused

So something that you said just jumped out at me -- you said that the *first photo posted* receives an acorn. So subsequent photos do not? Even if they're a clump shot of the same plant?

A photo of a bloom gets an acorn. More photos of the same bloom will not but a photo of the entire plant will as will other things. Post a picture and see the possibilities. Leaves, bark or branches, pistils and sepals, buds etc may get an acorn..

That's right -- the first photo you post in any of those categories receives an acorn, but not subsequent photos. However, when you get into the Plant Database screen, up in the upper left corner it shows the total number of plants in the database, followed by (view more stats). If you click on the "view more stats" it gives different statistics, including the total number of pictures by person. And please note that both Paul and I are in the top ten! Hurray! And, of course, Calif Sue is so far ahead of everyone else that no one has a chance of catching her -- but it's sort of a goal to see how many total pictures you can get. So we just keep posting away!

Omigosh -- it doesn't even look like an Iris. It looks like some exotic bloom that you'd find in the jungle. The colors are magnificent. Leave it to Joe Ghio! Is it true that he's retiring and that there will no more Ghio Irises?

Sue, that is utterly gorgeous -- what fantastic color, and I love those little rays in the falls! And beautiful shots, too, of course! I would love to grow some PCI's, but I've always thought it's too hot here. Do you know if they could possibly survive here in our summer heat?

I haven't heard anything about Joe Ghio retiring, but I wouldn't be surprised. A year or two ago he lost quite a bit of mobility in his right arm due to a shoulder problem that surgery could not correct completely, so that really affected his ability with so much of what he has to do in that business -- plus he's in his 70's. Where did you learn that he's retiring? I know Paul Black from Mid-America retired this year, although I believe he still does their catalog and handles international orders for them.

I don't know Betty, I planted mine under my redwoods where it's gets part sun. I know Zuzu has several so they do grow here plus we have one nursery that always brings in several pots of them in the spring.
Here's an excellent article I found for growing them, I need to print it out.
