Mine are pretty spread out, but the main one lines my driveway -- and my Mom refers to it as *Iris Lane*. Heres a couple of photographs:

Oh my, oh my! My 'little birdie' was right.

My friend Sharon told me to ask Mary Ann for a picture of her driveway, and Mary Ann complied. I am so glad I asked. It's amazingly beautiful. And probably an amazing amount of work too.

So how long is it?

What is that red flower close to the ground?

Can you estimate how many irises you have?

Wow your iris lined drive is outstanding! Looks like you have tons of space for gardening. I make do with a city lot but it is about all I can handle anyway. I really have space envy when I look at your beautiful pictures.

Thank you Stacey -- your Iris beds look pretty fantastic too!

Polly -- the driveway is probably 125-150 feet long. I've forgotten. The red flowers are Dianthus -- I've sprinkled them here and there for extra texture and color, especially for after the Irises are done blooming. Someone else asked me how many varieties of Irises I have -- and I'm not sure. I blew through my first order of 100 plant tags, and then ordered an additional fifty or seventy-five. I have about ten left -- but I have used a few for Daylilies. So somewhere around 150 varieties I would guess. Not enough, apparently -- I have another six or seven ordered this year! Whistling

Thanks Lucy. Iris time is my favorite time of the year -- and when it's over, I can't wait for the next Iris season. I'm obsessed. *Blush*

Thanks Daylily. The advantage to living on a farm is that you have unlimited space. The downside is that it's pretty easy to bite off more than you can chew.

How beautiful! I'll bet you are out there admiring them all day! Well, if you have a farm you might have to take time to care for the animals. I have a bunch of horses, and lots of space too, but I'm at about my limit for being able to keep up. It's hard to resist adding just one more bed! Thanks for sharing!

I'm down to three horses, Tom -- which leaves me more time to admire my Irises!! Hilarious! I'm getting real close to my limit too -- and these days I don't think in terms of adding one more bed. More like adding one more variety. Or two. Or three -- you get the idea. Green Grin! They're all so beautiful -- how do you not? Thanks for your nice remarks.

Thanks also Aruba and Jan.

Only 3 horses, I can only dream, I have 27! I had sold 17 of them some years ago on a lease purchase agreement, and of course, the guy quit making payments, and I ended up with them all back, very skinny, and mostly in foal. By the time I got some weight on them, the whole economy and market fell apart. I''m slowly selling off some, and some are getting old and have had to be put down. It's been a long haul, but I still have time for some Irises.

Twenty-seven????!!!!???? OMG Tom -- how do you have time for anything but horse-chores?

Yeah -- it seems like every one of those lease-purchase agreements end up badly. I have learned that if they don't pay cash for the merchandise, they don't ever pay for the merchandise. I'm sorry you had to go through that. We leased a mare one time and got her back in terrible condition -- and from a professional trainer/breeder no less -- ya can't trust anyone. Never again.

I'm glad that you have *some* time for other pleasures in life. Smiling

Mary Ann, your Iris Lane is absolutely incredible! I can only dream of having irises like that! Mine never get to be big clumps like that. I love clump shots too, by the way -- and when you post them in the database I believe they would count as an entire plant acorn-wise. (hint, hint...)

LOVE, LOVE LOVE Iris Lane!!

Here is part of my backyard raised bed. It is is about 40 feet long and 8 feet wide. It is on a slope so it is very high in the back. Every time I have to get into the bed to dig stuff, I'm afraid of falling out of the bed lol. My age limits me now.
