WOW you are good. I have never had my ginger bloom in the pots. Your growing season is even less than mine. You are a good plant mommy .

Agreed. My hedychiums start blooming in very early May (sometimes April) and are still blooming. The spent canes are setting seeds now. They will put up new growth continuously until a freeze puts them into dormancy. I have an Anne Bishop in bloom, I will show you the color difference I am talking about

This is my Anne Bishop in the first pic. The second pic is a ratty Daniel Weeks going out of bloom. The third pic is a Daniel Weeks about to start opening up. It fascinates me how differences in culture and climate can affect plants

This isn't pot gown but it is a cool one that I got a long time ago called Luna Moth. Contrast it with regular white Hedychium coronarium

Gosh I have them all over. You know I actually met Daniel Weeks. There was a guy here who used to have a nursery way out on this dirt road outside of town years ago. He sold mainly gingers, agaves, and elephant ears. He had some younger guys who worked on the place and one was Daniel Weeks. Daniel actually hybridized that plant so it got named after him. He used to sell them in person at the local plant sales. Tom Wood also lives around here, I have been to his place but its been a very long time ago.

I have Daniel Weeks, Pink V, Elizabeth, Clown Suit, Dr. Moy, Dr. Moy 'Improved' (aka Tropic Ice), Luna Moth, Coronarium, Gardernarium, Greenii, Ayo, Anne Bishop off the top of my head. I used to have some of the more unusual epiphytic hedychiums in the greenhouse but they were lost in the Great Greenhouse Heater Debacle some hears ago. (My propane heater flamed out almost set the place on fire on a 20F night. )

I bought Hedychium coronarium rhizomes in April of 2017 from Mary's Garden Patch online. They shipped right away and they were quite nice sized. I got three white butterfly and three orange bottlebrush, none have bloomed yet but all are growing well and survived our temps down to 28 for many hours. I read they take two years till they bloom but went out today and see a bloom starting on my white, they're really tall, taller than me.

If you're looking to buy, I'd highly recommend Mary's
