I bought this Vanda down in the Florida Keys probably 15-16 years ago. We were visiting friends downstate in Ft Lauderdale and decided to do down to Islamorada and of course I had to find a nursery to go to LOL. I have long since lost any tag it ever had, but it is a faithful bloomer and I am happy it is blooming now!

Are you looking for a name for this hybrid? If so, it might be a Vanda Miss Joachim. Your Vanda seems to be a semi-terete type. Terete Vandas have "rat-tailed" leaves. Yours in the picture is almost rat-tailed but not quite so I think it is a semi-terete. The other parent being the more typical strapped leaf type.
One of the most commonly seen Vanda hybrids in the terete leafed group is Vanda Miss Joaquim. But that I think is a rat-tailed hybrid. So yours might be a hybrid of Miss Joachim. If that all makes any sense?

OK, I'll bite, what makes a leaf described as "rat tailed?" Is it because they are sort of folded in half?

Rat tailed is tubular in shape. Just like a rat tailed file. A strap leafed Vanda, which is over 90% of what we see, are the the wide "open V's" that we notIce on most Vandas.They are like and inch and a half wide.
The cultural difference between the two is that the rat tailed group takes even more light!. Many people outside of Florida and maybe south Texas can not flower them due to not enough light.
The Vanda leaves in these images above seem to be semi-terete which is a combination of the two types. It appears that these are mostly round with an open groove on the top surface.

Alice, if you look at the flowers above they are kind of "wonky-looking", kind of open and with ruffled petals and sepals.
They are not the rounded, full flowers that we see typically on a good Vanda.

No I'm not really looking for the name. This is only the flowers. The whole plant is really huge. I can take a photo. I have Vanda Miss Joaqium growing up big totems elsewhere to the top of the greenhouse, looking for the sun LOL. Been climbing up there for years. It is a fully terete one of course

These are 2 additional photos of this plant. I agree it is not a fully strap leaved Vanda. It is also growing in a very weird way...it fell out of its basket years ago and remained rooted as a free hanging plant. It is rooted into a total of three baskets, totally stable, and seems happy. Please don't judge me. I never would have consciously let this happen...but I was forced to basically abandon my greenhouse and plant hobby for a stretch of about 7 years because of family matters that occupied almost all my time. I was lucky to get to go out there once a week, if at all. Sometimes months would go by and I had not been out there. I had an overhead sprinkler system, and the heating and cooling is automated. So I kinda just let it slide. But at some unknown time, one entire side of the sprinkler system failed. That's about 860 square feet of plant material that did not get watered, at all, for a very long time. I lost a lot. But I have now cleaned everything up, salvaged everything I could, repaired, revamped, and started caring for it daily. I may replace some of the plants I lost, but many, like some rare palms, rare anthuriums and philodendrons, rare gingers, and orchids, have been lost and now would be too expensive to replace. So you can see how this twisty-turny plant is growing at the moment. I know it is a hybrid, it used to have a tag with the cross, but that was stolen by the pesky squirrel a long time ago. (she did leave a hickory nut in its place though ha ha)

That is some Vanda and I like those flowers, to me they are not wonky at all.

I believe I had a rat tailed Vanda, I lost it to rot this past summer. I bought it in flower and they were the more rounded shape but the leaves were definitly folded. Semi terete???

Pretty sure mine was a St. Valentine and as I look at photos of that one it does appear to have folded leaves.

That is how they grow in nature, Gina. Maybe you are on to something there.

You know, looking at your post I am reminded of a lady who posted under the name of gothqueen. She also had this really large greenhouse with all sorts of fascinating plants.

Had another vandaceous come into bloom, I believe this is an Ascocentrum, of course no tag. Cute little peachy orange blooms, growing in (of course) a crazy manner

I am looking for another ID. Thesis an old photo now a current one. I am almost certain that this is an Ascofinetia. I remember that because I bought 2 at the same time, 'Twinkle' and another that is this one, I SWeAR I remember it being named 'Raspberry Ice' or 'Thai Raspberry' something with Raspberry in the name. It wasn't Cherry, it was Raspberry. I can't find it online. This plant has grown into a specimen plant now. It has 5 separate heads and for its genera looks pretty hefty to me LOL. I recall when it bloomed before I had as many as 8 separate blooming spikes at the same time. I am hoping it blooms again soon. Any help with the ID appreciated

Gina, I scoured the RHS pages for a vandaceous plant with Raspberry in the name. I don't find anything which might fit yours. It is not Asctm ampullaceum, right?

Looks like Ascocentrum ampullaceum to me too!

Maybe it is. I have lost so many tags off plants. I know I had a Neofinetia cross with the name Raspberry in it. I bought it from Tropiflora at their annual spring sale one year. But maybe I lost that plant, and this is a completely different plant from my memory.
