The auction was for summer 2019 delivery, weather here is too chancy to plant iris this late in the year. Wasn't going to participate but saw Isadora Duncan...had bids in on 5 or 6 but think I ended up with just 2, should find out for sure this afternoon. The plan was to order much less for this upcoming year! Hoping to get land cleared and part of the existing gardens moved next fall. Weather in AL is nice enough in the fall that I think I can move both peonies and irises that are ready to divide.

Eventually moving ALL of my garden to AL. Our daughter lives in Chattanooga and plans to stay there so we bought 20 acres on a small lake to build our retirement home just a few hours from her. Current plan for me is to work 2 more years then move to AL while the house is being built. My husband will work several more years but be based out of the east coast (hopefully) instead of CO. I started a small, experimental garden there last fall that did fine almost completely unsupervised, this spring we'll have several acres cleared and beds created so I can move a large part of my CO garden there.

Yes, good luck, having a couple of years to move your plants will help with the stress of moving.

Liz - peonies are usually sent to be planted late fall here (just planted two yesterday) so Bama should be similar in that regards. That goes for LA's too if you want to take up beardless iris.

I think you should keep LizinElizabeth since it is also a clever play of your name. Smiling

I agree 20 acres is a lot of space to do anything you want to do. Hurray!

We have 12 acres here, but don't look for acres of irises. I am trying to stay within the confines of my fenced garden area. The deer are voracious here, and there are plenty of them.

Thanks everyone! I'm pretty excited about the move. We should have what will eventually be my garden retreat and a barn built next fall and have water and electricity up so we can stay on the property when we visit instead of a hotel. Initial gardens will just be rows, something easily manageable until building is complete. So excited about landscaping the new place! It'll be wonderful to be able to dedicate most of my time to gardening instead of work.
