I would sure love to hear about your experience of it and pictures would be greatly appreciated. How big is your tree?

I have had mine from Song Sparrow since 2011. I love it, but I have it in the afternoon shade. It is not yet 3 ft tall.
It blooms very early, right after Feng Dan Fen.

Here are some photos.

I'm glad you got one, Karen. If I had it to do over it would be in more sun. Maybe I'll get brave and move it next Fall.

Thanks for the acorn. Thank You!

So glad to hear that, LG. I have mine planted in full sun. I was not sure of its substance - whether its petals could handle being exposed to full sun. I tried to find its genetic makeup but all I found was that it was a moutan seedling from Toichi Domato nursery in CA. Does anyone know what species this TP maybe? Is it suffructicosa? What does moutan mean?

Princess Chiffon belongs to Suffruticosa group, which means it may have silky flower. While many Lutea hybirds have thick or waxy petals.

Moutan is the Chinese pronunciation of tree peony. You can google to find that Moutan means "a tall shrubby peony with pink or white mottled flowers, native to China and Tibet and the parent of many garden varieties."

Thank You! Thank You! Littebin! I googled the term and it said "moutan" means mountain. I did not know that it also means peony in Chinese.

Karen, here it is the Google search:
https://www.google.com/search?...

In Chinese, tree peony is "mudan", has similar but not exact pronunciation with "Moutan". The following is from Wiki:

Paeonia suffruticosa is a name used for a group of culture varieties of tree peonies that are the result of hybridisation with species exclusively belonging to the subsection Vaginatae. The common name used in China is mǔdān (Chinese: 牡丹).

Karen, so glad you started this post!

I looked at the pictures from LG, thought the blooms were gorgeous, and put Princess Chiffon on my wants list for next year.

My box from Adelman's came yesterday, and I unpacked it this evening. The first root was Princess Chiffon, I totally forgot that I had ordered it on Nov 23, during the sale from Adelman's. My memory is clearly going.😂

I'm thrilled to see that this tree produces such beautiful blooms!

The plant has 6 stems, and 10 pips that look like they started growing in the box. I'll also post this pic in the roots thread.

Thanks Littlebin! I guess Mudan and Moutan are interchangeable terms for tree peony in Chinese.

That's a spectacular root, Annette! Hopefully, we will all get blooms from Princess Chiffon next spring. Crossing Fingers! Crossing Fingers!

I found this thread because I am choosing between Princess Chiffon and Hanakisoi. I have one more huge pot for a woody peony and I would love to have a suffruticosa pink large fragrant peony. These two look similar from pictures, I am sure the plants themselves look different. How you, ladies, find Princess Chiffon and Hanakisoi if you grow both of them?

Hi Anya, I do have Princess Chiffon. It is very early. I wonder if that would be a problem for you. The registry says it is fragrant, but I can't recall noting that. The blooms are gorgeous.

I have a Hana-kisoi in a pot, and it hasn't bloomed.

Mine hasn't grown very well. It is not a vigorous or fast grower. Since planted in 2018, it hasn't bloomed yet. I am hoping for at least a bloom next year.

I never did get a HanaKisoi, or Yachiyo Tsubaki, instead choosing Lion of Yatsuka and Yae Zakura, maybe in future.
But I was deciding between Princess Chiffon and Ruffled Pink Petticoats this year, I only used the Solaris photos to help me make up my mind, but wow LG very nice PC photos!
So many to choose from!
