It is December 1. a beautiful sunny and cold day here in the North East and we need a new thread. Let me start with my Vanda Peddler's Velvet Gold. This one blooms several times a year. I see another spike starting up on the other side, so it should be in bloom for a while.

This ca handsize plant of Pleurothallis allenii is happier inside with some cooler temperatures and starts blooming.

And this Alcra Mem. Khun Krairit 'Stargazer' opened a second spike

Is anyone else surprised at how fast this year has gone ?
My Bc. Makai 'Louise ' is just starting to open a few of the 16 spikes I counted.

I have one new bloom today, a NOID Onc. from Trader Joe's that we think maybe 'Jungle Monarch'. It blooms profusely at least twice a year and is an easy plant. Just my style.


New spike opening on my Blc Punakea, too. Such pretty lips on these.

I am asking for prayers again. Posting here so everyone will see it. I lost my buddy Jack on Thursday when my electric was being chained from fuse box to breakers.
He turned up missing. Didn't know if he was in the attic crawl space, in a wall or in basement crawl space. He was missing for 46 hours until my son Matt located him off the main crawl space in an area 8' deep or wide by 8-10" high. He has now got food and water and light to find his way out. He is about 15' from the hatch.
We put water and tuna fish where he can see in and the hatchway is open. I need prayers to get him to eat the food and get up the nerve to walk up the two step stepladder and get out. Let's hope he does it when it gets real quiet this evening and overnight.


I have not eaten really or slept with worry but now I am in a better frame of mind. Pray everyone pray.

Bill, I too am pretty sure he will be out when he feels like it. I have had cats do that same thing. One regularly got into the attic and he would crawl down between the walls.

This is a true story about a cat, not one of mine but it happened at my house. We had a new HVAC unit installed under the house in a crawl space. The door to the crawl space was open all day while the guys worked under there.
A few days later as I came home from work a strange cat came up to me as I got out of the car. It meowed at me and was clearly trying to get my attention. I did not recognise the cat and I ignored it. This went on for several days, it even tried to get in the door to the house with me. All I could think of was this was a weird cat. Eventually it gave up and I forgot about it. About 6 weeks later I was outside and I glanced at one of the vents to the crawl space and saw two eyes looking out at me. YIKES, there is a cat under the house. It apparently got locked in there when they were working under the house 6 weeks earlier. It was too scared to come out so we did the water and tuna fish thing. It took a while, close to a day, but eventually it came out, skinny and scared but alive. We never did find out who owned those cats. We guessed the cat that was seeking my attention knew the other was stuck. Amazing animals.

Ceci your Miltonia flavescens is gorgeous! It's wonderful seeing these plants growing as they should in nature..not in a pot on a shelf.

I am showing your Punakea to my Punakea...it's been sitting around taking up space for ever and NOT making any moves toward spiking.

Elaine, your Maybe Jungle Monarch appear to be growing in the bottom of that pot. Is it just in there for stability?

We took a ride out to Pennsy to winterize the house, the hunters are done, they both got their Venison and went home happy. I see a lot of new blooms here, pretty stuff all! ! I am happy Ceci is joining in too!

Yes, the maybe Jungle Monarch was a little top-heavy with those big pseudobulbs, so I plunked it into that pot and it has been happy ever since. I did extract the weed growing out the hole in the pot, too. Amazing what you notice when you take a picture of a plant that you don't notice when you have the plant in your hand . . . in my defense, the weed was facing away from me until I turned the plant to take the picture.

:cross_finger: Bill, I sure hope Jack comes on out of his new hiding spot. Maybe place the food just a bit away from the hatch? Just so he will have to emerge to eat and drink, and realize that the scary strangers are gone from his territory.

Bill I hope your feline friend has come out of his hidey hole and back to the warmth of the house this evening. Some cats don't like changes in their territory (says the woman with two "live under the bed" born-ferals cats). You may in the mean time if he still chooses to hide continue with food lures and put his cat carrier in the space with a nice soft blanket carrying familiar scents to keep him comfortable until he decides to venture out.

I am thinking about darting him and dragging him out with a noose on a pole. He won't remember much of that approach.

Bill!! He's a CAT! They have their own thing going on. My sister in law has had many cats. One, you never see. Even THEY rarely see it. It hides from everyone. It sneaks out and eats at night when everyone is asleep. Sometimes they wonder if it is still alive, then it will dart around a corner while it is running away from them and they will know it is. It does;t go to the vet, because they can't ever catch it.

One of their other cats is a horrible mischief maker. He is an ambush predator for ankles and calves.

Their house in Dallas is really old, its in a historical district, and it is kind of known in the neighborhood that it is supposed to be haunted. The realtor even had to disclose it to them before they bought it, because she was afraid of getting sued later.

Several of us have had weird experiences in this house. Things that really can't be explained. My daughter was about 9 and we were there for Thanksgiving. She was taking a bath upstairs in the original old iron clawfoot tub. My sister in law had hung a 'seashell curtain' on the wall behind the tub. While my daughter was bathing, the strings of shells started to move violently. She freaked out and ran out wet and naked downstairs where we were all watching football, screaming about the ghost. We went upstairs and what did we find? The mischievous cat laying on his back under the clawfoot tub batting the shell strings back and forth.

But the house really IS haunted.
