As promised (although later than I planned), I opened a small Cubit store. I promised I would announce it here, so I am.
Orders placed (or at least informed me of) before ATP orders are shipped out will receive "free" shipping with their ATP order.
This was quite the busy week!
We took the whole week off of school as part of our "fall break". We all joined Dave in Dallas for the server install and we enjoyed shopping at IKEA for my birthday gift of a new craft room while there.
Several came down with the Change of Season Cold this week.
We had a family fun day.
This past weekend marked the last of our responsibilites to any "farmer's markets" (in this case, I use that term very loosely) or shows that we had agreed to. I have a ton of stuff left, so I think it is time to finally set up my Cubit store for my soaps and goodies that I've talked about for almost 2 years.
Sunday brought the most beautiful weather. Shorts and short sleeve shirts. Garden putterings. I ripped out the basil that was in the Hugal bed to make room for the new lettuce and some spinach seedlings.While digging around in the bed, we made some adjustments. In the middle of it, we commented that we should have taken some pictures or videos, but we were too busy working to do any more about that.
Since Texas has finally seen some rain, we're actually seeing weeds in the garden as well! Imagine!
We had more rain early this morning. The pasture is growing grass for the first time this year. There is Rye in the bottom land that reseeded from last year, so that's also giving Daisy more to eat. In fact, even my "lawn" is looking a little bit green! On the bright side, we never had to mow this year.
I'm contemplating what is going to take the place of all of our trees that have died in our immediate back yard area. I'm entertaining the idea of bamboo. We'll see!
I've been working several hours about 4 days per week on this project. I'm pretty happy with the results :)
This is for my girls's birthdays. I made the curtains, quilts, and did the wall murals.
The quilts are just a simple rail, and I did free motion quilting on them. They are the first quilts I've ever made.

What with everything else going on, it's been a little difficult making the time to tackle the market gardens.
Dave squeezed in digging ditches and laying new pipe for the orchard (and expanded gardens out there) in the 100 degree heat. Much to my protest, mind you.
Putting in the perinneal veggie beds is also on the ToDo list.
I had already managed to cut back the tomatoes and clean up some of the rows, but other rows need the unfortunate overhaul of a retill.
So, last night, I cut out the rest of the tomato cages from the Mexico Midgets, which Dave and #2 took out the cattle panels and t-post supports we used for the cucumbers and some tomato varieties. We then moved the drip tape irragation, and finished tidying up the rows.
This morning, all the children (minus #5, he napped) and myself weeded the rest of the garden. I'll finally get around to ordering our seeds, hopefully today.
We still need to plant more Purple Hull Peas (and East TX favorite) and additional squash out in the orchard. The pumpkin patch looks great. I'm working hard against both the squash boar-ers and the squash bugs. An old timer told me to try spreading whole wheat flour on and around the plants, so I've been doing that. Since we're not getting any rain, it isn't washing off. I have seen a great improvement with the bugs, but not the boarers. Regardless of the few plants that we're loosing, the rest are doig very well, so I think we'll get a good crop. Oh, and the corn. But the corn is not for sale. It is mine, mine, mine. I guess I'll share with the rest of the family...
We didn't plant to have a market garden for summer as our other farmer's market friends did. With everything else going on, it is nice to have a little break this year.
On the list for fall: Beans (bush, pole, and lima) beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, chard, kale, kohlrabi, mustard, peas, potatoes, pumkins, radish, spinach, winter squash, tomatoes, and turnips. Yep- that should do it.
