Desert Bird of Paradise and Bird of Paradise seeds poking their little heads up
Posted on Dec 23, 2015 5:07 PM

Noticed today that all six of my DBOP and all six of my BOP are sticking their little seed heads up out of the soil. Hopefully they'll do better in the small pots I started them in than they did in the seed trays. My Pride of Barbados should be doing the same in a day or so. Hopefully the heater will keep them warm enough with the really cold air coming in right after Christmas.

Pride of Barbados, Snap Dragon seeds and blooming Hibiscus
Posted on Dec 21, 2015 5:01 PM

Started six Pride of Barbados seeds, quite a few Snapdragon seeds (as an experiment) and noticed in the overflow greenhouse that my red Hibiscus is blooming. Looking closer I see it has quite a few blooms on it. I guess it likes the jungle atmosphere in there with the high humidity.

Desert Bird of Paradise and Bird of Paradise seeds started today

Started 6ea of the DBOP and BOP seeds in the old plastic orchid pots after cleaning them with water/bleach mixture and rinsing. Should work better then in the seed starter trays, I hope. Soaked the seeds 48hrs prior to planting and all had tiny starter roots already.

Started 6 Heart Leaf Hibiscus seeds today in the old greenhouse. Hopefully one or two will germinate since I have a limited supply.
