730am -- It's a balmy 55F, the bees aren't awake yet, and it's light enough to see the dead flowers on the buddleias. Sounds like a perfect time to enjoy my "church of the great front yard"* and spend some time deadheading.
810am -- who knew the dogs would be so upset about my being outside without them? LOL
Learned something new today - SPIDERS nest in buddleias! When I have time, I'll post a photo of what is arguably the largest spider egg sack I've ever seen in my life. And of a sleeping bee. But I'm not even supposed to be inside right now, so back to the yard I go....
750pm -- As promised... pictures! Sorry I didn't get these in sooner - it's been a busy day.
The sleeping bee first - I love how they just grab hold of the plant at bedtime and hang there all night, even if it does put a crimp in the deadheading of the plant when they're still there.
Even so, I'd rather run across a sleeping bee when deadheading than an oversized spider egg-sac!
I literally jumped back when I saw this nestled in the branches, it startled me so much.
I don't think I want to know what size spider has an egg-sac that big...
* I am in no way being disrepectful of brick&mortar churches, so please don't think that
