Yard Sailing!

YARD SAILING!

The 55 plus community we are renting in has a once a year yard sale for 2 days where everyone puts their stuff out in the driveway or garage. Yesterday was the first day of it.

Talk about a shark feed! My goodness! The yard sale didn't start till 8 but that didn't stop people from coming before then. Some people drove in at 6 am & sat there in their cars until people started selling. I got out at 9 on Friday & went looking. We could use a knife sharpener here so that was on my list. I borrowed 1 from the dear sweet couple across the street to sharpen the 4 steak knives in this house. They had come over when we moved in & told us "anything you need....". But I hate to a borrower be. And I won't ask them again. Once is enough for neighborliness. Also looking for a small cheap desk. No luck on either. By the time I got there everything had been pretty well picked over. There was still some good stuff to be had but at this point I'm not willing to spend on stuff I'll just have to store & I can live without. I was covering territory fast as lightning; no dawdling. I had to have hit 30 places in an hour. On my way back up this street coming home there was a place 4 houses from us.

I made my first purchase for the house. I SAVED money. This is a light fixture which hangs from the ceiling. The guy was asking $5 & then he lowered it to $3. I didn't have the heart to dicker at that price. It was mine. At the moment I'm thinking it will go in the toilet stall. You can always find a place for something like this. It's in perfect shape.

I remember when we built last time; lighting fixtures cost a flaming fortune! Even the cheap, plastic, cruddy, blah looking ones. I figure I saved us at least a $40 expenditure. Wayne loves it. I told him it was his anniversary present. We have somewhat eclectic taste so this will fit fine.

A Wondrous Hole

A Wondrous Hole

I have always been possessed of a curiousity which knows no bounds. If there is a hole in the ground, I will poke a stick in it to find out what is in that hole, how deep it is, where it goes & what made it. Two of my dear friends have called me a "stick poker" & they are correct. I freely admit it.

I am forever saying, "I wonder......."

One of the big oaks on the property has a huge hole in it about 3' up the trunk. I kept wondering what was in there if anything & how far the hole goes etc.... But there's NO WAY I was going to stick my head in there! And for once in my life I wasn't about to poke a stick down the hole either. I kept wishing for one of those cameras on a tube like the doctors use so I could lower it in there & take a look around. It's been bugging me & bugging me. I could hear that darn hole calling to me every time we were there. So I decided to take a shot & see if the camera could manage to reveal anything.

Approaching the hole. It's a lot bigger than it looks in the photo. Say, 2'w. x 3'h.

Now I'm holding the camera outside the opening & shooting toward the rear where you can see a hole going back farther in the hole.

You can see I'm still holding the camera outside the hole by a good bit. I'm terrified if my hand crosses the threshold some monster is going to jump up & bite me!

Now, I can't see these photos on the camera screen --- all that shows is pretty much black -- so I have no idea what's in there or if I'm getting anything on pixels. I'm just shooting wild. I've got my hand just at the edge now & trying to angle into the deep dark unknown.

I finally work up enough chutzpuh to actually hold the camera over the hole (sort of) as much as I dared, still waiting for fangs to sink into my hand.

I didn't know I had gotten anything other than black blackness until I got home & loaded the photos on the computer. I'm blown away by the clarity & detail. So now I know what's in the big hole.... well, part of it anyway. Now I'm dying to know what's in those deeper, darker, farther holes inside the hole.
