Here are some pictures from 2014. We made a lot of progress! We moved the hot tub and started sculpting our land.

Our backyard is beautiful and I love it. It does needs some TLC! Those Tulip Poplars are gorgeous. Among them are Winged Elm, Sassafras, Pin Oak, Flowering Dogwood, Hickory, Black Berries and a whole lotta Chinese Privet and Japanese Honeysuckle. (The front yard will have to be it's own blog)

This is where the 2015 adventure all begins!

Yesterday I transplanted these little peppers. Maybe it was too soon? I was very careful with their delicate roots. They are now under the grow lights with press n seal over them.

Here the first flat of food I've ever produced.

Hope you enjoyed my virtual tour, I'll add more pics as I clean up my archives.

The Swedish Chef, Winter Sows
Posted on Jan 8, 2015 6:28 AM

Woke up to 5 degrees today! Last night DH and I brought in all my stuff to winter sow. I've been mixing the vermiculite with potting mix, in the kitchen. Hopefully what I am doing will work. The vermiculite with the potting mix is very light and fluffy. The plants will love it. I feel like the Swedish Chef from the Muppets, in the kitchen mixing my mix.

Putting holes in the bottom of the soda jugs is tricky, so I'm cheating and using a sodering iron to melt holes. So much easier and safer, me thinks. There is no mercy for a container being used for winter sowing. It's a hard life. lol I wonder if I am putting enough holes in my containers.

It is so fun planting these seeds. I finally get to open them and use them!!! Some seeds I have been holding on to for almost a year and finally they get there chance to shine. I've been saving jugs and soda bottles for awhile, but now I'm weary I'll be running out soon.

I've got pepper seeds incubating. I check on them more than I ever checked on a baby, making sure the temp is just right, but it keeps fluctuating. Hopefully that is not big of a deal. I'm trying to keep it around 85, but some times it spikes and sometimes it goes low. We'll just have to see what happens but the equipment I've got, is what I've got.

Stay warm and work on your garden! This is the best winter yet, knowing that Spring will have so many surprises. AWE-SOME!

Promise :)

Good morning plant lovers!

This is my first year winter sowing and my first year owning a garden tiller. We'll see what comes from those 2. All Things Plants is where I've come to journal my experience to keep track what I'm doing, share pictures and gain knowledge. A little info about me, I love my family, kids, dogs, plants, birds, butterfly, most of nature and music. I live in East Tennessee, zone 7a but I grew up in Michigan. We've grown to love the Smoky Mountains! Sure beats 5-10ft of snow every winter and wet pant legs!

Promise :)
