I've tried braiding the leaves, rubberbanding them and tolerating their untidy look for years. Voila, my solution: Plastic expandable bottle protectors that are used for packaging or bagging wine bottles and other bottles of that shape. The protectors are about 6" high, of good thickness for re-use many times over, and a dark green color -- a perfect camouflage. Since pictures speak for themselves, below are the results of their application. The local wine & spirits stores are the only ones I know of that carry this item, and they are pretty nice about giving a few extra bottle protectors when they are told it's for the garden. This permits the next upcoming flowers to emerge unencumbered by fading yellowing leaves.
