I like a riot of color and I love it when the rose blooms are so thick that you can't see where one shrub ends and another begins. This is easily accomplished by planting very closely together, no farther apart than 18 inches and often more closely than that. Add multiple rows of plants. Floribunda roses work best for this planting method as they are known for lots of bloom, so using floribundas for this planting scheme ends up with the best results.
Pictures of the rose bed I call "Floribundaville" in my front yard.
When choosing your roses, pay attention to the expected height and width. Don't pick roses known to grow large or sprawling. Stick with more compact specimens.
Each spring I prune heavily, down to 18 inches for all the shrubs. This keeps the rose shrubs smaller and thicker. Heavy yearly pruning is very necessary for maintaining both the look and health of the roses.
Now is a great time to be thinking of new roses for your landscaping!
