Extremely easy to grow from seed each spring, Tithonia (commonly called Mexican Sunflower) is a south of the border native commonly grown as an annual. Seedlings grow quickly into tall shrubby plants covered in vivid orange red blooms that keep appearing until frost.
Because of their large size, it is best to stake the plants. Use them in the back of the border or to hide an unsightly view.
Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are attracted to the numerous blooms. Goldfinches eat the seeds formed in spent flowers.
