Here is what you need.
Aerosol can cap with an inner moat
Wine Cork
Wire (I use 12 gauge)
Glue (I use Gorilla Glue)
Drill with a bit about the same diameter of the wire
Wire cutters
First cut the cork in half, then drill a hole in the center of the plastic cap and one half of the cork. Don’t worry if the cap cracks a little.
Thread the wire through the cork, smooth side down, about a third of the way up the wire.
Next, put enough glue inside the inner moat of the cap to just cover the bottom, then thread the wire through the cap and push the cork into the glue. Hold it there for a minute or so, then put it on the top of the bottle so the bottom wire goes into the bottle. Keep it there until it’s totally dry.
Once it's dry, just bend the wire on both ends. Here is a picture of 3 I’ve made.
Hang the Hummingbird feeder from the bottom of the moat and fill cap with water. There you have it: Your very own ant moat!
Don’t be tempted to put poison in the water because small birds like Chickadees will actually drink from the moat. I refresh the water every time I water the plants because of this.
