I took a heavy plastic juice bottle, removed the label, and then drilled two small holes in the bottom of the container. I buried the container in the ground close to the plant, leaving about a quarter of it exposed so I could easily see the water level. I then removed the cap, filled the container with water, and replaced the cap to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in the standing water. This is working quite well. The water trickles out slowly, keeping the plant looking healthy and well hydrated. It is easy to fill the container as needed with the garden hose.
