Keep using those jack-o'-lanterns after Halloween. Use them as planters.
There are many times when you are planning to place a tree or shrub, but you don't have the specimen you want or it is not the best time of year to plant. At other times, you may have ideal conditions for digging a hole for your plant: nice cool weather or moist earth after a rain. Maybe you have extra help for digging, or you are just in the mood for a workout. Planting time and hole-digging time do not have to coincide!
Seasonal vines such as native passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) can become unruly in the summer garden, but they can be garden stars with this easy trellis.
Save nylon mesh produce bags to protect fruit as it begins to ripen. The bags expand as fruit grows and help protect it from predators. Also, since pawpaws often ripen and drop off the tree within a short period of time, you can retrieve your fallen fruit from the bag.
