I love Rosa 'America'. It's my favorite rose. However, it getting very difficult to find in garden centers or nurseries. Even the online rose stores are either sold out or not in stock. I was able to buy two from Heirloom Roses this year. They seemed to be the only ones that were carrying it. When my two own root rose bushes get big enough, I may try my hand at either rooting or taking a cutting to propagate a few more. That will be a new gardening attempt for me!

I have the climbing variety I started from a cutting from a friend about 8 years ago. It gets 8ft. long and is sprawling on my wood fence. The salmon-colored flowers are a pleasant addition that brightens the aged fence. I trim my climbers in Oct. most years and it encourages them to send out a last flush of buds here in zone 9 before our 1st frost or freeze in about December. 'America' is doing so now. How lovely!

This is my all time favorite rose. I love its salmon color! I planted three of these roses years ago and love the way they grow and bloom. I lost all of them through neglect, but have finally reordered them and added them to my garden again this year. They came as 'own root roses' from Heirloom Roses (first time I've ever ordered a plant online). They didn't look very good when they arrived. The canes that obviously began growing while in the box during shipment looked almost translucent and yellow. I planted them, gave them some fish emulsion fertilizer as recommended, and now a week later they are green, leafing out nicely, and growing!

America is a beautiful and unusual off-pink colored rose with a typical high-centered hybrid tea form of flower. Here in my garden it does need strictly scheduled spraying for blackspot since I want it to be blackspot-free. Not a rose that can miss a spraying and stay blackspot-free.

It is supposed to be a climber but mine simply refuses to climb and has remained a bare knees shrub for years. As I love the flower, I just planted some lower growing floribundas in front of it and let it do as it wants.

I planted this rose 5 years ago. I didn't know how to cut back climbing roses, so in February I cut it back just like a shrub hybrid rose. Oops! it didn't seem to mind, rewarding me with so many blooms it bent the trellis. Top star performer! Blooms continuously for me from march through the first hard frost. it is so breathtaking when in full bloom in the spring I have had people driving by stop and ask me the variety. I have found it to have only moderate resistance to black spot, but black spot is endemic in my area, You seldom see any roses that don't have it. The blooms have a beautiful swirl pattern when they open, and the fragrance is reminiscent of the hybrid tea 'Fragrant Cloud.' It produces large, strong canes each year.
