Small dense mound-shaped shrub with clusters of deep pink flowers in summer. Red shoots in spring turn into rich red-tipped chartreuse foliage holding its color into fall. Great for the border, foundation or in mass plantings. Remove old flowers to promote continued bloom. In colder climates, dieback is common. Prune to ground level in early spring, treat as a perennial.

Tolerates zone 5 winters with no protection. Gets to be about 2.5'-3' around and tall. Gorgeous yellow leaves in high summer. Starts off bright red in the spring, then yellow, then back to red for fall. Some of mine have sent out runners, though.

I find this to be a slow, steady grower. In my area it is hard to find and expensive, so when I saw a sickly looking plant for a few dollars at a fair, I bought it. With pruning and good soil, it bounced back and has grown a bit each year, producing tons of flowers. Compared to other spiraeas in my garden, it does not grow too huge, which is a plus.
