Rosie, your images here are not an abelia but rather seem to be a Spiraea japonica. Check the other abelia images to compare.

There are several gold leafed spiraea, I have this one Japanese Spirea (Spiraea japonica 'Magic Carpet') but if you are unsure as to the cultivar, your photos can be moved to the generic Spiraea japonica entry.

I have the tags somewhere..not purchased from a walmart ..but kieffer landscape on two different occasions ..same shrub. All pulled out now but one ..since a color clash with other plants .. but certain of the shrub as it was identified. Do you want me to remove it? It looked and behaved as it should, but I am no expert. Mark Kieffer is a reputable dealer with his masters from Duke in Forestry and I think careful with labeling.

People try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved

Sorry but nurseries mis-tag things all the time, even reputable ones. It's definitely not an abelia. The foliage and the blooms are different. The cultivar 'Kaleidoscope' is distinct with it's variegated foliage.

Blooms

These are Spiraea that match yours.

Your bloom buds next to my shot.
