HI All,
I'll post plant pics soon but way too tired right now! We left my friend Linda's house at 7 this morning in Orlando to head up to Gainesville where we were priviledged to meed Doris and David Bishop (Casshigh) plus Pam (Gardenglory) and Tracy Pont. It was great fun. Didn't get home until after 9 tonight. In addition to Ted Petit's garden we visited the garden of John Peat and then out to the Salters. After lunch we stopped by to view the garden of friends Sarah and Bob Martin (you may know their namesake daylilies by Frank Smith) before going to the Ice Cream Social and Auction sponsored by the Central Florida Daylily Association. It was lots of fun I can personally testify that Karen Pierce makes great cookies.

Here we are at Ted's.

We did bid on a couple. nodding
I can't remember what the Bishops got but I got a huge pot of Nicole's 2012 Count Your Assets and a nice DF of Reilly's Azzuno.
When we were at the Salter's I got some of Liz's patterned things. Pinwheel Princess, Freedom in Flight and In a Jiffy. She gave me Alex's Impact on Saturn as a bonus.

Betty, I think it was you that wanted Mix and Match.

I've got to finish this cup of coffee and get ready to go to Nicole's breakfast party but you've got to see this seedling. I don't know if it's Liz' or Jeff's but it was the most impressive thing I saw at their place and they had some gorgeous stuff. We saw it in the greenhouse, out in the beds, and everywhere it looked just like this. She said it would come out this fall or next spring. Line up folks. It's going to go fast.

After b'fast at Nicole's today we're going to visit the Trimmers, the Reillys and Floyd Cove. If we're not dead we hope to get back out to spend some real time with Dan at Ladybug. I was delighted to run into John Benoot and Francois Verhaert there the other night. They've already been around and John said Dan had the best stuff anywhere. From what I've seen he's absolutely right. Want to get some daytime pics for you out there. I got some the other night but they weren't shot until after 6 pm. Here are a couple of the storm that hit at the end of the party. It was beautiful.

We are now home! We did not take in any of the gardens this morning. Instead, we drove back to Gainesville, FL to spend last night. We wanted to stop back by the Gaskins' Daylily Garden on our way home. We stopped on our way down and picked out some of their seedlings. Today we picked out more and bought Complementary Colors (ours died after growing it probably 5 years) and Mystic Image (G. Pierce 2010). Mary gave us one of their introductions, Miss Scarlet. We brought back the two Mecca gift plants that the Petits and Nicole gave to all who visited their gardens. We bought two seedlings from the Trimmers. All in all, we came home with 30 new daylilies. The back seat was full with some in the floor and in the trunk with most in pots. I am now going outside to cut all the foliage off and will leave the scapes. I will treat all for rust as a precaution before planting.

Steph, the champagne may have been tasty but I would not know. I appreciate the empty bottles more than the contents! LOL We will have to put these two bottles in a special place and even put a plant stand with label saying, "Daylily Mecca 2012 Le Jardin Petit" or something like that. We were all on a "Daylily High" this weekend!

I did not tell you which gardens we went to. We started Friday at the Petits', then went over to John Peat's, and then to the Salters'. We started Saturday in Nicole's garden followed by Pete Harry's, Floyd Cove, and the Trimmers' garden. I regret that we did not make it to the Lambertsons' garden before we ran out time.

One of the highlights of the trip was meeting Leslie (lalambchop) and a couple of Dave's Garden friends (Pam and daughter Tracy from FL) that we had never met before.

I will post some pictures as time permits. Got to get outside now!

Doris

Thank you so much for sharing a trip for the Daylily Mecca. Now I feel as if I
have been also, and met some nice folks too.

If I may ask, what do you use or do to treat for a rust precaution
other than cutting the foliage off? How far down do you cut the foliage?

Shirlee, I cut the foliage to about a 1/2" to 3/4" above the soil. Tomorrow I will spray the scapes, bracts, and proliferations which I trimmed and saturate what is remaining from the foliage with Daconil. It is not the best anti-rust fungicide on the market, but it is affordable and available at Lowe's (probably Home Depot). I said 'saturate' because I want the liquid to run down in between where the foliage comes up from the crown where rust spores can hide. I will then use a Bayer Systemic, such as Rose 3 In One (fungicide, insecticide, and fertilizer). I will mix it with water and pour it around the roots, soaking them but not to the point of runoff. I will also put some Bayer granules (also a fungicide) that we also have on top of the soil around each daylily. Most all of these are in pots, and the few that are not will be potted up tomorrow. I will keep a close eye on them to see if I find any signs of rust as the foliage grows back. I have followed this procedure before and had success with getting rid of spotty outbreaks of rust.
