I have thrips this year and also leaf hoppers, I have not sprayed any insecticide for several years, and I guess this is the year they decided to take over the world! We have had tons and tons of rain, cool nights and lots of humidity and wondering if that is why they are so bad. The weird thing is most years I have gobs of japanese beetles and this year, hardly any. So strange. I do have some sevin, and also malathion, but I'd like to use a systemic spray, does anyone have any recommendations for that?

I have had good luck with planting Allysum around my daylilies. Not only does it smell great
but it attracts the pirate bug (Orius) to your garden and they have a great appetite for thrips.

Some say it should be white Allysum, but I plant all colors.

I've seen a difference in beds where it is planted and beds where it isn't, not proof, but evidence it works.

thank you I may try that. Does it come up every year? I'd love for it to reseed and be invasive. Better than the weeds I have!

I'm a zone 5b at best, and it's an annual here.
