Today I found out that Lorn passed away. Lorn was my first lily mentor and the person who directed me here at least 7 or more years ago. My lily rookie self posted in another garden forum and Lorn was quick to point me to this forum. If you go around this forum, you will see many contributions from Lorn. He was eager to share info and material and was a real lily historian.

I was fortunate enough to finally meet him and share breakfast with him at the 2016 NALS show in Chicago. He couldn't have been nicer to me and my wife and was truly a nice guy. An almost 40 year age gap was not anything to overcome. He will be missed.

My thoughts go out to his family.

He was truly a lily historian. He also also always had a way of getting conversations about lilies to keep going. He was also a Jedi master of division 6 lilies.

The last year I have been working in the same town that he lives in and often I'd think of him. Wishing for the chance to talk lilies over coffee. Top that with going by Bob Griesbach's place back and forth from work.

I know he's in a better place, but he will be missed by many.

Thoughts for his family, sorry for the loss.

He was generous and thoughtful in so many ways, and had a practical, analytical manner in his approaches.
Lorn has all my respect, and I'm sure he is in a better place now.

For those who didn't know of him, his pieces of lily wisdom are archived in the threads here in this forum.

I am so sad to hear this. I have really missed his posting here the last few years. He was very knowledgeable about growing lilies, especially in the cold upper Midwest. I'm sure many people here benefited from this knowledge.

He did pride himself on his trumpet lilies. I remember the seedling he called 'Lady Luck' (I think) and boy was I envious. Best wishes to his family and friends who I am sure miss him.

Lorn brought a lot of expertise to this forum here. He was help, as Joe mentioned, in sharing what his experience was, with others. Helped encourage and "light the fire" in many newbies with a budding interest in lilies. The Div. 6 Diploid Master. Grateful that we have his beautiful trumpet images on here to look back upon and smile.

Joe, thanks for letting us know. May Lorn rest in Peace in a field of trumpets.

But, heaven's lily garden will be spectacular next season.
Thank you, Lorn, for all the wonderful advice. You will be missed.

Sorry for another gardener loss. Perhaps link this over to the Garden of Memories forum?
