Struggling here, bloomed the first year I planted it. Nothing last year plant started as 2 fans in 2018 was still 2 fans 2019 . Must need a more sheltered area here. My garden is wide open with no shelter from wind or sun. The winter snow drifts over the plants but because of the open area can blow away. I don't think it is going to make it here. Sighing!

I've had it for two years now. So far it has shown some increase but it hasn't been real heavy on the blooms. Time will tell.

Mine has been a let down, too. I have had it a long time and it has barely increased at all.
Going to move it this spring and see. Sighing!

I have only had Malachite Prism for 2 years now, both the Diploid and the Tet. version obtained in 2018. I received 2 fans of each. The original diploid has increased to 5 fans and the Tet. version has increased to 7 fans. Both have bloomed for me 2 seasons and have had quite beautiful blooms. Even though the diploid has fewer fans, it produced more scapes and blooms than the Tet. conversion and set more pods than the Tet. conversion. The diploid gets lots of morning sun and then some afternoon shade and the Tet. gets morning shade and then afternoon sun (may be the difference in performance). The diploid is coming back this year with the original two fans very thick and robust so may very well catch up with the Tet. on increase this year. It's handling our freeze/thaw cycles we have here (7b) very well thus far and I'm happy about that. Not as touchy for me as I have read some reports of. While not a super fast increaser (a bonus for some people), I am glad I got this one and enjoy it very much. Thumbs up

I'm in the same zone as you and mine hasn't bloomed yet. 2019 was its second year in my garden and didn't show much growth from the year before. I bought it in 2017 and replaced it in 2018 as it didn't survive its first winter. The grower, who is in Iowa, suggested that it may not survive in my zone but it is in a protected area so I'm hoping to see a bloom this year, if it survives the winter. The grower said its a finicky plant and that I should stick to dormants in 4a.

Malachite Prism has struggle here too and it has had full sun in a not so crowded spot. I got it in 2009 and it multiplied very slowly. A friend of mine wanted a start, so in 2018 I gave her some of the 10 or so fans. Then it went into decline and I thought I had lost it, but it is starting to come back. I hope it makes it this year.

I guess I can only say that the reason I keep it is because of that awesome eyezone, because bud count and branching has not been very well and I don't believe it has ever reached its registered height of 36". I've seen 2-way branching mostly on it with only about 8-10 buds. I have never seen rust on it. Here in southern Indiana, we are not supposed to get rust, but I guarantee you we do some years.

With its beautiful eyezone, it is easy to distinguish. And many of its 42 children have that wonderful prismatic eyezone too.

I'm thinking that the flower is so gorgeous, even if it is a slow increaser it can stay Lovey dubby

I'm in zone 6a, NE Kentucky and have had Malachite Prism for 3 years. It is shorter than the data base figure of 36" but not by much. It has a great attractive flower and is both pod and pollen fertile. It also increases well. The foliage for me is medium green and about 1 5 " tall. I have large pods. I would recommend this one for anyone wanting a snowy bloom and to subsidize with. Hope this helps
