I have been gardening with Wildflowers and Texas native plants for 18 years and it has been a wonderful experience.
Learning about the less known plants and about wildlife has opened my eyes to a whole new way of appreciating nature.

Tell us about your experience and your adventures in the world of Nature.

I have just come across Callirhoe.
I ordered seeds for some called "bushii".
What is the difference between the different varieties?

Wow Jay!! It looks like you are as addicted to wildflowers as I am, such a wonderful addiction I must say!!

I have many of the wildflowers you have, since they are native to a very large area of north America, and that is a very lucky thing.

Here is hoping you will show us some pictures of your favorites, if you can possibly decide which ones they are?

Surely you love them all and have trouble choosing, just as i do.

Let us have fun sharing.

Hello Caroline, I am not familiar with Callirhoe bushii but I looked around and found this info
http://www.missouribotanicalga...

It seems the main difference is that the plant is more erect than Callirhoe involucrata and C, digitata these two are really trailing plants.

I hope it does well for you they are really beautiful.

Cephalanthus occidentalis
Chamaecrista fasciculata
Conoclinium coelestinum
Cornus drummondii
Crinum americanum
Desmanthus illinoensis
Elephantopus carolinianus
Erythrina herbacea
Hibiscus moscheutos ssp. moscheutos
Hibiscus moscheutos ssp. lasiocarpos
Hibiscus coccineus
Hibiscus laevis
Hydrolea ovata
Hymenocallis liriosme
Hypericum hypericoides ssp. hypericoides
Indigofera suffruticosa
Kosteletzkya pentacarpos
Lantana urticoides
Mimosa strigillosa
Opuntia engelmannii,

Oh My Goodness Jay!! it surely looks like you are addicted as well!!
Gardening with native plants and wildflowers is such a great hobby, there is always a special one that we don't have and the search goes on.

That is a very impressive list of Texas natives and I know that you really love them all, just as I do.

Which is your favorite of the ones you listed? If you can possibly pick a favorite? Smiling

I don't think I can name one favorite. I love all the Malvaceae, Turk's Cap, Salt Marsh-mallow, and Hibiscus. I'm actually trying to collect all the Texas Native Hibiscus.

I have to add to my list of plants

Chasmanthium latifolium
Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii
Unidentified Spiderworts

Jmorth, I love the Asters as well, they are all so beautiful and put on such a show in the Fall.

I wish New England Aster was a Texas native, I would beg you for some in a heart beat.

But we do have a lovely aster here also, which is native to Illinois as well Purple Fall Aster.

Horntoad, you say you love Hibiscus and are trying to enlarge your collection.

I didn't see you list Heartleaf Hibiscus; http://wildflower.org/plants/r...
This one is not winter hardy in North Central Texas, but it should be hardy for your area.

You didn't list, Neches River Rosemallow, this one should work well for you

I can send you seeds of both if you like. Smiling

It came from a friend in Virginia who ID'd it as O. humifusa. Maybe not but it looks like it when it blooms. I have read that the spines are sometimes lacking on O. humifusa var. humifusa.
