Three things to consider if you want this plant in yours:

(1) seeds can be winter sown and transplanted in the spring when quite small
(2) transplanting larger specimens is possible, but better done in early fall

(3) this is the kicker, I think - do not remove any dandelions in the area. Whistling The crowning plants closely resemble dandelions in the early stages, and they emerge fairly late. Don't pull them out by mistake! Rolling on the floor laughing The first few years I tried to grow them, I think I pulled them out. *Blush*

Of course, if you really need to remove a dandelion, do so once your chicory is blooming. Any youngsters not yet bloom-sized should at least show some different shaped leaves by that point in time.

Too funny that a plant that grows with abandonment along the roadside would be so difficult to get started in the garden, but I'm so happy to find that it actually can be done. Lovey dubby
