We do not have one.

When I click on that, it takes me to apricots.

When you search for a genus, it does a search in the database for any parent plants that have that genus and lists them. In this case, since there is also a species associated with this particular parent plant, it can appear confusing. I should update the search to include the species in the name, so you at least know what you're getting before you click on that.

TY for that. I'm left with curiosity why Prunus would still be left without a parent plant? Or why apricot is it? Probably a severe lack of knowledge about fruit trees on my part, appreciate any info!

We can't really have a parent plant specifically for Prunus because it covers such a vast array of different plants. Eventually I imagine we'll have a parent plant for plums, one for cherries, another for peaches, etc. Why do we have Apricots and none of the others? Who knows?

Oh, dear. I hadn't seen this thread when I processed purpleinopp's proposal to delete a photo. I created a generic Prunus entry instead of deleting the image and moved the photo there. I think it will serve nicely for unidentified Prunus photos until we have parent plants for types of Prunus other than apricots.

I saw that and put a couple more pics of a mystery roadside Prunus. What kind of 'fruit' has planted itself there? I'll be watching what develops later. Hoping to catch the flowers in full bloom on 3/16, when I will be in that area again.

It depends on who you listen to the most. In the botanical world, "stone fruit" is generally thought of as a less technical term for "drupe", a specific type of fruit. In which case, there are a lot of plants that produce stone fruit. Highbush cranberries, autumn olives, and true olives are three that come easily to mind, but there are many others.

In the culinary world, on the other hand, the term stone fruit tends to be applied mostly to plants in the Prunus genus.
