Hi Rod, Welcome!

I'm not sure if this is the plant you are referring to but I believe some call it Mexican Flame Vine:

Mexican Flame Vine (Pseudogynoxys chenopodioides)
Mexican Flame Vine (Pseudogynoxys chenopodioides 'Sao Paulo')

Welcome, Rod! If it is Mexican Flame vine, I've had it. It isn't really hardy here, but with protection it would probably come back for you. I just thought it will would be okay with heavy mulch, but it died during a particularly cold winter here in Austin.
I found mine at a little stall coming out of Laredo. You might check at Green Gate in Seguin. They carry quite a few flowering vines.

A former neighbor of mine used to grow the Mexican Flame Vine here in central Fla. too and it was so beautiful! It's definitely a hummingbird and butterfly magnet but then one winter we had consecutive hard freezes and her gorgeous plants all died.
