I highly suspect this is mosaic but I don't know for sure. If memories serves me correctly, this one came up with variegated leaves this spring. It is Madison Cooper and I really hate to dig her up and toss her but will if I have to. She came from HIPS a couple of years ago and I am pretty sure it is the only one in the bed that has this problem.

I really can't see what you're referring to, Lori , but, if you suspect disease, I'd at least dig it, and maybe pot him up, put the pot off by itself, and let nature take it's course ! You might be wise to "drench" the soil where it was planted .......maybe some 10% bleach water, or hydrogen peroxide solution (1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide to 1 gallon of water).......if I've ever HAD mosaic on any plant.....I didn't know it , and really don't know much about it.....does it cause leaf varigation ?

I have a spot right in the middle of that same bed where the irises are really, really short. I should go take a pic but I am lazy. Fabian is maybe 6" tall and didn't bloom this year and there are 3 or 4 other historic TBs that are the same way. I don't know what might be causing that!

The stunted ones and the ones with the funky leaves are several feet from each other but in the same bed. I wonder if I am going to have a problem in the whole bed now? Crap, crap, crap!!

It sounds like it's spread by insect activity (aphids), so maybe it is likely those neighboring plants are also affected......I'd get on that bed with some insecticide, if it was me.....if you're "green", I'm sure there is something "organic" that can slow down aphids . From what I read, if it's the "mild" form, it isn't *too* serious a problem.

Aphids should be controllable with a dish soap mixture. I don't use toxic dish soap like Dawn, so I mix a few drops of essential oils like wintergreen. Crushed garlic and hot pepper in the soap is good too. Dilute it. I once burned the daylights out of my roses with garlic.

Oh, Arlyn..I am not "green"! I should be but I am not. I do have essential oils out the gazoo though so I should probably look up how to use them in the garden. I am supposed to finish up my Aroma Therapy course by September but since it is July and I haven't started sending my tests in yet, it just may not happen. I have gained a lot of info, just may not get the certificate that says I know stuff. lol

I should add, I have not had an aphid problem this year. I did last year when I had rose bushes near the iris beds. I had aphids everywhere, they were awful but none this year thank goodness!!
