I'm looking all over for these 2 blyth iris. They were a 2014 inductions so I would imagine someone in the states has them. If anyone knows where they are or had some I site that would be great.

Sherbet bomb

Keith Keppel would be the most likely person to have them, but I didn't see them listed in his catalog. It might be that he has them, but hasn't propagated enough to put them on sale yet.

They were both registered in 2014, but neither one has been introduced yet.

I didn't see either one of them at Keith Keppel's garden last spring. That doesn't necessarily mean much, though. They are both registered as Very Early bloomers and it was probably a little past peak bloom when I was there. Could have easily missed them.

I will do! I have sent out like 10 emails today looking to see if anyone here in the states has it yet.. I even emailed Barry himself. We will see what he says.

Just got an email back from Keith kappel. They are both planted in his garden and if increase is good they will be introduced next year! Yeah!

Technically no one should have this iris as it has only been registered and NOT introduced yet. It is not in the market place yet.

Well I would say Barry wouldn't have sent it to Keith if he was not supposed to have it. But that's just my guess.

When I spoke with Keith this morning he said it was growing well and he looked forward to adding to the catalog next year.

Putting it in a catalog for sale is introducing it and then the public can purchase it. I hate it when an iris is registered and it still takes a few years to introduce it.

They do take a few years to increase enough for many customers. We like to have our registered ahead of introduction. Schreinsers registers theirs the year of intro & one never knows the parent until the next year.

I'm sure, also, that some folks want to "reserve" the name, by registration, so it's "in the bag" for when the iris is ready to intro.

Well there are a whole bunch of Blyths I sure wish would get introduced including some amazing medians that I would love to get my hands on!!!

If I remember correctly, the "registration" is for three years. If you do not "introduce" by the end of the three years, the name goes back into the available pot for other hybridizers. If you really like a name but you have insuficient stock to support an immediate introduction, this gives you three years to build up your inventory while keeping the name.

For Blyth, the transition from the Southern hemisphere to the Northern can cause issues, so he seems to be taking advantage of the time delay. Sounds like "Sherbet Bomb" will be a 2016 introduction via Keith Keppel.

Registration is forever*. If you reserve a name, you have three years to use it in a registration. Generally, irises get introduced within a couple of years of being registered, but not always, especially for backyard hybridizers. Working in the database, I've seen some cases where there's a decade or so between registration and introduction.

*technically, names can be transferred from one iris to another, I can't remember all the requirements, but it's stuff like the no existing stock, can't have been used as a parent of a registered iris, etc.

Jen, have you downloaded the Blyth catalog? I love looking through it -
even though it's printed out on my printer paper. So many of the newer
catalogs are works of art - like the Stout catalog and Mid-America's. Beautiful photographs
and glossy paper really sell the irises. As long as I'm handing out the praise, I really like Iris
Sisters' online catalog - enough to have made another last minute order last night! Went to sleep
with a smile on my face.
