I don't have this cultivar, though in my opinion it has a very attractive bloom. I am always looking at rust resistance when determining which cultivar to acquire. This particular cultivar has a pod parent, "El Desperado" that shows rust susceptibility of a 2.5 rating, but on the other side of it's pedigree is a pollen parent, "Pirate's Patch" that shows a rust resistance rating of 1.0.

I would be very curious to know where Desperado Love rates concerning rust resistance?

This one is new to me,purchased last year. Bloomed well this year.
Looks a lot like parent (El desperado) but larger bloom and slightly softer color
I have not tried using pollen or setting pod.

DESPERADO LOVE is very pretty but does not increase well for me,and in my zone 6 garden is not as good all around plant as it's parent EL DESPERADO.

Lisa - Thanks for posting both the child and parent Desperado cultivars. It is interesting to see them side-by-side. Thank You!

Had it for about 4-5 years, averages about a good 25buds per scape.
Good bloomer and sets seed easily.
The eye is different than most eyed and edged cultivars.

DESPERADO LOVE has only just begun flowering for me this season. It usually blooms in the first or second week of November here. This is one of my later flowering cultivars. It dies down in winter but always has foliage present. I haven't noted it as a rebloomer yet. It sets pods well.

The bloom today

It is not a rust bucket but it is definitely susceptible. I would rate it about 3.

Overall, it is an excellent performer and bloomer. A good-looker: it has blooms that the camera seems to love and the flowers cuddle together well. I use urea, alfalfa and Epsom's salts with success with it.

A delight over the years past.

The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

Desperados Love has taken a while to settle in here, but the last couple of years has bloomed every bit as well as El Desperado, although it has not multiplied as much as I would like. I like the flowers on this just a bit better than it's parents. I only realized today that I have both its parents.
