Okay, folks, for our seed swap, it would seem we need some agreed-upon terminology that people can use consistently to talk about the swap, make their 'claims', etc. Ella has her Piggy Swap with piggy-related terminology, I feel like ATP should have our own and let Ella keep hers unique.

I'll get the ball rolling with some thoughts...hopefully they'll percolate in our minds and help us create some terms that will be unique to ATP. Since Ella mentioned her Piggy Swap came about because everyone felt like piggies when they received their goods, some similar ideas could be:

* Finding gold/jackpot
* hitting oil (although that might make for a lot of grimy-feeling verbiage?)
* payday

Please chime in with your own 'theme' ideas or verbiage that you would like to use. (I like Rick's idea of 'dibbs', personally, if we don't have an overall theme that we all agree in.)

Okay, don't laugh, but maybe something along the lines of dreams? Just trying to be creative here...

Instead of 'oinking' something, someone could 'star' it or have it on their 'dream list' or something.

It could also be a different type of theme like Fishing...you could 'hook' items instead of 'oinking' them. (Not my favorite suggestion, but it shows a different train of thought for the theme of the ATP swap.)

Is there something plant-related that we could use? Is there some sort of plant terminology that refers to a plant catching something it wants? Maybe with venus fly traps...? Hmm...

Maybe we could just "request" seeds? Hilarious!

I guess I kind of cringe at the first suggestion, remind me of gambling. I would like this kept simple if possible. My head has spun a few times trying to wrap my brain around everything that was being said about the swap.

I'm for just "requesting seeds". I don't care for the cutesy names. Simple is best!

I'm fine with simple, but what about personalizing it to this site, at least, so if we mention it in other venues people will associate it with ATP and maybe look it up.
ATP Seed Exchange
All Things Plants Seed Savers Exchange
ATP Seed Traders Hub
ATP Seed Swappers
ATP Seed Requests

or something. Smiling

Won't the individuals who host swaps want to give them a name of some sort? You know, like "Weedwhacker's Annual Weed-Seed Swap" Big Grin

My mistake. I thought DND was referencing the application in general, not just this swap in particular. Hilarious!

I don't know about fun, but here's another "short" name.

A generic name embracing all swaps organized at ATP using Dave's new swap feature, perhaps some day covering plant trades as well as seed trades:

Dave's Swaps.

How many gardeners who go online use or used either DG, Cubits or ATP? Is it "all" or only "most"?
Either way, I want to honor and thank Dave more than I usually get the opportunity to do.

People referring to any of the proliferation of relaxed swaps, specialized swaps, fair-trade-swaps or who-knows-what-future-swaps, can all tell anyone where to find it and how to sign up by just saying:

"Oh, you know. It's one of DAVE'S SWAPS. 'Nuff said."

...as long as people don't think it's associated with that 'other website'... Rolling my eyes.

The problem I see with calling it Dave's Swaps is that each swap is would be run by and individual who may not do a very good job. Would Dave want his name on a swap that went bad. It seems like that would reflect badly on him even though he was not involved.
