I am sorry I missed some of the great daylily of the day posts last fall. I LOVE Lurch! I didn't think I would like it because I am more of a fan of rounded petals, but when Lurch blooms, I smile.
I planted two clumps of Lurch in early 2015. One is in front of my porch, facing east, where it gets sun until midday. The other is on the southeast corner of my porch where it gets full sun. The one in full sun has multiplied better, but the one with partial sun has a bit better color saturation. I got blooms on both clumps in 2015, and many of the blooms were poly (see my avatar). Blooms on this guy are big. The poly in my avatar was 10"+, but average blooms are 8". In 2015 the self was a sort of salmon color, but in 2016 it was more creamy. However, bloom color was consistent for each season and they don't change colors during the day.
In 2016, I had 7 scapes in one clump and 5 in the other. Each scape had 12-15 buds. All buds opened nicely. It was one of the tallest plants in my garden last year. It was a mediocre pod setter and pollen parent, but I want to keep trying because of it's big flower size and nice tall scapes. I will probably eliminate one of the clumps this year or next since I am limited on space and want to get more varieties. But I will keep some Lurch around for a very long time!
