I think it would be fun to have a thread for poly blooms. I haven't had any yet but here are the buds on my Mt. Laurel Sundayhaus. You can see they're all poly so we'll have lots of them to come. My Four Diamonds is also currently showing all poly buds. Hurray!

I have one! I just went out to check on things, and here was this 5-way poly on CHARIOTS OF GOLD, a 2012 intro by Tim Bell. It does look totally chaotic, though, as if it was going to be a 4-way and added the fifth petal at the last minute as an afterthought. And there are 5 sepals, although one is disguising itself behind that top right big petal. This one looks nothing like your gorgeous polys.

And I think I just learned something -- when you look at the bud, does the number of divisions there indicate how many petals/sepals there will be? I had no clue...

Yep! You can tell a poly bud from a regular one by the number of segments.

I don't like poly blooms unless they have five segments not four. Four doesn't look right to me. I usually break off any poly buds before they have a chance to open. Whistling

Great idea Leslie! I don't grow many polys, but the ones I do have I look forward to seeing bloom. A week or so ago there were some fantastic poly seedlings in one of the threads, can't remember where I saw them now...

This is one I grow Crazy Mr. Jim from Paul Owen. It polyed on most blooms last year. The bloom is huge and really stands out in the garden with it's bright color combo. I moved it to a prime spot in the display garden so visitors can see it this year

Juli, you're killing me!!!!!! LOL
I agree about 5 being way better than 4 but you have to start somewhere.

This is a FFO that bloomed today on a seedling I'm testing for Don Herr.

My favorite poly that almost always produces poly blooms is MOANA GLORIA MAY. I really love it!

Les you are the Poly Queen for sure. I do like the Poly's 4 or more. Just unique from the standard 3 and fuller bloom. The patterns can be very interesting also.

Betty, I like that one too. Jamie Gossard sent me a bunch of Mystic Jellyfish this year which is like MGM and doubles sometimes.

Thanks Steph! I tip my hat to you.

That's fantastic! I've occasionally seen MYSTIC JELLYFISH on the LA, and maybe someday.... Lyle, if you're on here, would you consider posting a picture of that small yellow extremely toothy daylily again here? I just love it!

Here are today's poly blooms. FFO's for both.

Four Diamonds. I love the shape of this Ned Roberts poly but the plant isn't as robust as I'd like. However, it's showing 100% poly blooms this year so I'll hit them with other poly pollen in the hopes of keeping the percentage and improving vigor.

Too Many Petals. This Baxter baby is another reliable poly and I like that it's more than just yellow.

Betty, I put Peppermint Delight on the Herr seedling you liked and just giggled to think of how fun it would be to get that coloring and pattern in a poly.
