a few days before Christmas i was at Lowes and they had a shelf of Amaryllis bulbs that were starting to bloom. my daughter loves red flowers so i picked her a plat that had a few buds getting ready to bloom.



the day after Christmas she calls and says it has opened , i went by her house and this is what it looks like.




she says she loves it.
this morning she called again telling me another has open.

going by Lowes today to see if there are any left.

here amaryllis will never bloom directly from bulb that you buy in nursery . They first have to develop a lot of leaves, and maybe then, after several month you will have a bloom (maybe !!).

Maybe you will get a red on this time Harold. Especialy if the picture is of a white one!

yes the package showed the red and white, my daughter loves red type flowers, but when it bloomed both blooms were the white .

I always say that boxed bulbs are like a box of chocolates, you just don't know what you are going to get. That's a "good surprise" A "bad surprise" is paying $24 plus shipping for a new cultivar from an internet company, and getting a no-name surprise.

not really sure on names but she has 3 red or two tone amaryllis , roses x8 ,a plant i do not no the kind or name. and 3 different hibiscus.

now a white amaryllis.

You should send that photo, along with the photo on the box, to the company name on the box.

Christie: Your suggestion is a good one. I don't know of anyone who has ever "called out" the supplier of a mislabeled boxed bulb. Curious to see what the response would be. In my experience, the usual response is to pass the blame down the line. Someday, someone will insert a microchip in the bulb when it is first cultured, so it can be tracked. Of course those bulbs would be three times as expensive.

Perhaps they will send him a new bulb - hopefully actually red.
