Love this one, and love Eucomis. I wish they were more widely grown, they are a fabulous summer bulb.

This is a new plant for me; we are never too old to learn something new. I was surprised to see two pages of them in the data base.
Makes a terrific banner Casey! Thumbs up

Casey,
any growing tips on this plant?
E.g. do gophers & snails love or ignore them?

I searched the lilies forum, but didn't see a thread about them.
Dave's Garden has good info plus several encouraging posts.
I found them for sale on Amazon for a reasonable price, so bought a set of 2 bulbs. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C6HQZ4D/

Thank you for introducing us to this very pretty & interesting plant. Thumbs up
Happy New (Gardening) Year Everyone! Green Grin!

ps- my DW, Ginger, loves lilies......I'm planting these asap & will let their blooms surprise her. ;)

Fine plant, but it's even a better banner. Nice job Casey. I tip my hat to you.

@escondidocal you wouldn't find these in the lilies forum as they are nothing to do with Lilium. They are easy summer bulbs much like Crinums or Hippeastrum. I wish they were more popular. They can be borderline hardy here in the north of England but are easily grown in pots and overwintered under cover.

Thank you @Fleur569, @plantmanager, @Marilyn, @crawgarden, @kniphofia, @EscondidoCal, @ge1836, @TBGDN, @GaNinFl, @Whitebeard for the nice comments! Thank you @IrisLilli and @Marilyn for the acorns!! Thank you everyone for the thumbs up!!! And thank you @kniphofia for providing info on this plant!

I LOVE these. I first came across these while visiting Plant Delights. They weren't in bloom, but I was intrigued with their color and form. Pic below. I bought one that day and continue to buy them whenever I come across them. Really need to do some more research on them so I can provide them with optimal growing conditions.

I'll dig around and finds some pics of them in bloom.

Aha! I was going by the common name, 'pineapple lily'. D'Oh!

I saw a lot of pics in the DB here, https://garden.org/search/inde...
but not a thread about them (?)

Would be great if someone (hint, hint) would start a thread on Eucomis with pics of them in bloom & info on
growing, etc. ;)

Ha! I agree Cal. :)

In the meantime, here are a few links:
https://www.plantdelights.com/...
http://blog.plantdelights.com/...

And a page of the varieties Plant Delights have/have had:
https://www.plantdelights.com/...

I would imagine they would do great in California. I'm in zone 7 and they survive our winters both in ground and in containers. They don't seem to be bothered by slugs, but I don't have a lot of those or gophers. (My garden has other "hiccups".) If I run across additional info, I'll be sure to share.

Your wife is a lucky woman. I suspect she'll be thrilled you planted them for her. Smiling

Thanks for the links, Casey! Smiling

California (probably not in Death Valley), at least here near San Diego, should be
rampant with them. I just have never seen them in a nursery or in gardens, though
they were probably right under my nose.

Mine are on the way, and I will be sure to document them for the thread,
"What IS Eucomis & Why Should I Care???", or "Is Eucomis contagious?".
I think I've been infected with the Eucomis virus. Sticking tongue out

Hi-lighting plants here has really helped me discover so many interesting & pretty plants I would
otherwise have missed.

Such a great place & a great group. Thumbs up
