My husband accidentally gave our 12 lb poodle a chicken bone, she was supposed to just chew it a little and he then he takes them away, but he forgot to remove that ONE bone, you know the one, the tiny long skinny one. And before I could get it away she ate it! I tried to fish it out of her throat but it was already swallowed, she seems mighty proud of herself right about now and thinks she really got away with something. Do I need to do anything or just wait and see what happens? Can I make her vomit? ??

We've made our dog vomit by giving him a few teaspoons of peroxide. We soaked bread with it. They vomit, but I'm not sure the bone would come back up. Maybe it's better to wait and see if it passes.

okay I called the vet and amazingly the after hours dr picked up! I didn't think they might not answer on a holiday weekend. She said not to try getting her to vomit it back up, cause it may get stuck on the way up. She also said that since it was the tiny bone, it very well may dissolve in her stomach acid and be ok. we will wait and see.

Ok, good luck. I have a feeling it will be ok. Dogs eat a lot of bones even when we don't know about it.

okay well today she seems just fine, totally normal. I am SO relieved!
My little dog does not eat any bones, ever. We keep her in the house exclusively, she only goes out to potty and we are right there with her. If she were a large outside dog, I may have not worried about it as much, but with her being so small I freaked out! I still cannot even fathom in my mind how she ever swallowed such a thing. The dr told me that my 6 lb poodle's trachea is only about the diameter of a pencil. Blinking So it is a mystery to me, I surely couldn't fathom swallowing that bone whole myself like she did Confused Will keep watching her the next day or so, but I think it looks good so far!

I'm so glad she is fine so far. That is great! Our dog goes outside and has brought back dead wild critters he's eating on when we find him.

bleh! She will do the same if we let her. She went under the utility trailer the other day and found a squirrel's tail, I took it away of course. Last summer she rolled on a dead snake, man did that stink-she had to have an immediate bath, I couldn't let her in the house like that Thumbs down Of course she was so happy about the opportunity she had.

Ours will roll on anything that stinks, and has to have instant baths.
