I would like to start a little running account of the progress on my lanai conversion.

This is a picture of the east side. I have already ripped out the plants in this area as the new lanai will be expanded out to the edge of the house. The pool pump and filters are being moved around the corner of the house and the pool heater (big box to the left of the pump) will be disconnected and trashed. They will pour a concrete slab here and cover it with the same brick pavers as the rest of the new lanai.

This is a straight on view from the back showing the star jasmine hedge that I will have to trim back from the screen to give them room to work.

And this is the west side. Note the big pony-tail palm. There will be a 24 inch gable exhaust fan mounted near the top of this wall to cool things off in the summer.

It should be an adventure. The goal at the end will be that it was money well spent.

Even if you never ever ever get another frost/freeze it will be money well spent.

Well, it has been a week and the only person working on this seems to be me. The gas has been disconnected from the pool heater and it is ready to move. It is the big box on the left of the pool pump and filter. A fellow is suppose to come out to take the heater away and move the pump and all of those pipes around to the side of the house. I hope he shows up next week.

It takes four inches of rain to overflow my pool and it overflowed this morning. Bands of rain swept in here beginning at about 6:30 AM and it has been pouring ever since. A real toad 'drowner'. This is what killed my Miltassias. I think the new lanai will put me back in control of the watering. It will also put me back in control of the pool. Tomorrow I will have to drain water and readjust the chemicals costing both time and money. I like being in control. Hilarious!

Too bad, Jim. I think most of us are control freaks. But life keeps trying to teach us there is no control. I, for one, refuse to learn!

I came home from a day at the International Flower Festival to find the pool cage gone. It sure makes everything look different! I moved all of the orchids out into other gardens in the yard. I hate changing their environment as several were in spike. All I can do is hope for the best.

Jim

I met with the general contractor and paver contractor this afternoon. It looks like next Wednesday will be a big day. The electrition is coming tomorrow at 8:00 AM. I'm getting excited.
