Hi!

Many years ago, I winter-sowed tall cosmos seeds that some very kind lady from the winter sowing forum sent me. Those seeds produced the tallest cosmos I'd ever seen, they were at least five feet tall and had lots of blooms. I collected seeds from those plants and several years later I winter-sowed them and that generation produced even taller and bushier plants. Here's a photo of that 2nd gen cosmos, those blooms were almost at eye level:

Unfortunately, I failed to collect seeds that time around. Sad Last October, I bought (supposedly) tall cosmos seeds which I sprouted right away using the winter-sowing method but the plants are barely two feet tall and the blooms aren't as large.

If anybody here has seeds to trade from their own tall cosmos plants, please let me know.

Thank you!

I don't have any, sorry Sad

I wonder how did they hold up in the wind, did you have to stake them?

They did quite well; actually, it wasn't a problem at all. No staking needed. That tall cosmos was truly mesmerizing, arching so gracefully and dancing in the breeze. Smiling

Thank You! so very much for that link, Frillylily. Very helpful! The seeds I got must've been from Cosmos Sensation mix and Candy Stripe. They were spectacular.

These look like the Candy Stripe photo on that site:

@_Bleu_ Cosmos are so beautiful and some of my favorites. I have seen Hummingbirds checking mine even though the blossoms don't seem to have any reservoir that would hold any or even a small amount of nectar.

* Hoping for taller ones this coming summer. Winter sowing may just do that. Crossing Fingers!

Hi bleu! In 2017 I grew 'purity' cosmos that got to be at least 7ft tall. I'm 5'3" and these things were way over my head. In the same bed as them I grew seashells cosmos that were about my height. If you are interested in any of these please let me know, I've got plenty of seeds! These were open pollinated though, and in the next bed about 5ft away were double clicks that were about 3-4ft tall, so i can't 100% guarantee the crazy height! I didn't take a lot of pictures for height, m0stly the flowers, so sorry for the crappy photos!
