I've not planted the gladiolas here so can't help there but tell us what type of lilies you have?

I should think the south of the house should be adequate protection to protect them.

cuzzx,
Two weeks before the last frost I see is a recommended time to plant the Gladiolus bulbs. Of course you can plant them in intervals so you will have blooms throughout the season.
The recommended time for planting the lilies will be fall or spring, so if you have not planted them by now Spring (I would say early March here).

I am the same zone as you & in the deep south as well. Hubs bought a bag of gladiolus about 10 days ago & we plan to get them planted as soon as we can. It's actually too wet right now. I checked Accuweather & our winter is pretty much over according to what they predict for the next 6 weeks. As for lilies, I already have many up with several leaves. I will put pine straw on them if Accuweather is wrong with the forecast but other than that I will just let them grow on.

my hibiscus have not bloomed either , but my roses are every where.
