The Spousal Unit thinks we should have an air purifier here in the RV, especially now since we have the kitties with us. Does anyone have any experience with the Dyson hot+cool air purifier? They honeywell model that just purifies the air? Any other recommendarions?????

We have used air purifiers for years in our home due to DD2's allergy. We have at least 1unit inevery room, some rooms have 2. The most important thing is to find one where there are readily available prefilters and HEPA filter replacements (Every 5 years). The prefilter is the one that needs regular vacuuming or replacing. It's usually charcoal that helps with odors.

The best deal we have found were at Costco. About $125. It covers a large area. They are quiet on the 3rd highest setting. This is important because when you read on the box: "Covers a 8 x 10' room", it means while use on the Hi setting. Hi settings are often loud. So it is best that you get a unit bigger than the size of the room you need to cover. Costco WINIX units are QUIET! Plus mine came with a replacement HEPA fiilter and 6 replacement prefilters. I am set for 5 years!

Thanks for that good info, Cheryl. We don't need them, but when your DD1 comes we need one. She is asthmatic and can't take any scents.

Need to mention that HEPA is the preferred filtration system. HEPA Filters typically last 4-5 years in the larger units . Ionic filtration, "Ionizers" uses static to literally burn the lint, dust , dander and particles out of the air. Some are allergic to the soot it creates in the air. Ionic cleaners boast that you can wash the filter instead of replacing it but you cannot run the air cleaner until the filter dries.

If you are battling allergies start with a filter in the bedroom where you can have at least 8 hours of clean air per night. Add more filters to other rooms that are frequented later. Cover mattresses with a hypo allergenic cover, Get rid of carpeting, books and toys, dirty clothes hampers, and other dust collectors. Substituting leather for cloth upholstery helps, too.

I use Austin machines .
I ask for the one that has charcoal filtering

We have the small one in our bedroom and that would be a good size for
you..

The large one you have to get used to it running and I put it in the
end of the house where we do not sleep and let it run all night turning it
off during the day..

I am a person who has excellent hearing and noise sensitive
most people are not...

We also have 2 cats...and I do wipe them down daily with wet papertowells
and hand dry the cats..that gets pollen off and dust...

Hope that helps...

We have a Levoit. Very quiet, compact size. Two filters - one carbon one hepa, no ions. It works very well. Had a honeywell before. It was loud, big, and did not make as big of a difference as the Levoit. Could not find Honeywell filters anymore.

We use two of the smaller style Levoit in the bedroom. One small unit only covers 130 square feet, if I remember correctly. Its cylinder shaped, 13 inches tall and 7.5 inches across.
