I grow several varities but most years in my zone 7b garden they suffer from summer dormancy because the heat is too much. After having them for over 4 years I've gotten fruit once. I grow other ribes like gooseberries and jostaberries and the same thing applies but there is one gooseberry called poorman that can take the heat of zone 10. It's been on my to get list for some time but over the past few years I've been focused on other things like hybridizing daylilies and fruits and grafting and put it on the back burner. I can send you some named black currant cuttings but I wouldn't expect them to do much if anything in a solid zone 8 in SC. currants are better suited for the PNW and other mild summer areas.
If you want to trade I'm looking for the following:
Named American persimmon scions
Named Cornus Kousa scions
Sweet Jenny muscadine cuttings
Red leaf hazelnut cuttings
Confederate Jasmine Tricolor cuttings
named Camilla cuttings
and variegated or tricolored Weigela cuttings

Thanks for the info Daniel, I guess I'll give up on the currants like I had to give up on the peonies and lady slippers.

I feel your pain with peonies but try festiva maxima if you can find it. It blooms for me but is a slow grower. all the others always get burnt to a crisp. I'm not sure if you ever thought about growing citrus but Stanley McKenzie has a nice selection of citrus that will work in your area. http://mckenzie-farms.com/phot... other edibles you may want to try out are pomegranates, figs, persimmons, loquats, guava, mulberries, and goumis. If I ever hear of a heat tolerant currant I'll be sure to let you know as I'll be adding it to my garden also. Thumbs up
