I may have put this on another thread but as I post on two other garden forums, I forget and here is a copy of those.:

This year I bought what I decided to plant, early, and hope I do not have too many hold over from last year as I hate throwing away potatoes but I can only use so many.

This year:
Butterfly
Lily
Harvest Moon
Island Sunshine
Purple Peruvian
Gourmetessa
White Giant
All Blue
Peruvian Sunrise

I contacted Allied Potato Grower about possibly getting a small order, they deal wholesale, for some potatoes not available from garden sellers.
The gentleman was very polite about sending me special small order.
He is gathering information to proceed.

Well I am once again going to shove wisdom in my back pocket and let curiosity rule the day.
The potatoes from above wholesale dealer will cost 100 bucks , shipping included, for 5 pounds.
They responded as to why they could not dicker down to 75 .

People pay a hundred bucks for a bottle of wine and booze so this is my splurge. Rolling on the floor laughing

My mail order potatoes are starting to arrive and although wet now the gardens should be ready by MAY DAY easily.
No one has set-up a garden shop here yet but they should start popping up in the next week or so.
Most snow is gone but out in the country there are still a few large snow banks here and there.

Caroline:
I have grown Warba on several occasions and it is a good potato. Thumbs up
Canadian potato sellers have a fair number of potato varieties not available in the States and sadly they do not sell across the border.
There are garden club type potato grower groups who deal with shipping over border line among members but I am too old to deal with that now, though twenty years ago, I may have tried. Whistling

Even though I really have way, way, way too many potatoes already I am going to spend the money on the Allied Growers any way.
Variety is the spice of life. Rolling on the floor laughing

I have added these to the South garden:
Lily
Harvest Moon
Island Sunshine -- One I have wanted for quite a while but the only person that had them for years was more than even I would spend.
Purple Peruvian

And my way, way, way too expensive taters from Allied Potato will arrive later this week, while I still have enough carry overs left I am debating to plant SO, I will have over 100 hill of potatoes for the first and LAST time in my life. Potatoes are now starting to pop out of the mulch both gardens.
I still have to put some sort of mulch over the newest plantings down South but with the peeing rain we have been getting not sure I want to mess with the city leaf dump so may just use up the old bails in the garage.

North garden as a whole looks pretty good but the foo-foo carrots I planted seemed to do better where water washed the seed than the planting bed they were put in.
The Fleet Farm garden shop is still open and clearing out a LOT of plants so I got 12 more chiles and a squash pot.
May go into the muddy garden and plant or may wait a day or so. I tip my hat to you.

Potatoes are still popping out of the leaf mulch.
Even the ones that are the same variety are going to be weeks apart for maturity. Shrug!

I think the potatoes I spent a chunk of bucks for are not coming up.
While it was late in the year I had planted a week to ten days before and most of that came up.
Next week or later this week I will dig down and see if all I find is a rotten potato.
Made potato salad out of the ones I did not plant. I tip my hat to you.

Well of the 9 or so Chipperbec I did not plant three rotted and the rest are just now starting to sprout.
You cannot really plant potatoes in August in Minn. but if these are just sprouting now I may get curious and dig down to see the state of the ones I planted.
I have had voluteer potatoes fairly often and just may they will come up next summer. Rolling on the floor laughing

My Chipperbec I put in in mid-June are now about to bloom.
With this wet colder than average weather I am hoping they have a few more weeks before frost.

Purple Peruvian have become a nasty hemorrhoid in every garden they were put in, including my Cousin's Mother's.
Still blooming and sending vines out far enough to maybe screw up some other potatoes.
I have planted them often and never had this happen before.

I am going to cut their vines down to near nothing this week and start to dig up every thing not dug up yet.
I spent several days down South digging and yield was at most one bushel but many of the potatoes are hand-ball to ping-pong ball size so volume does not reflect number of tubers really but it was an odd year for gardening including potatoes.
I had one dead spot with carry-overs so that also reduced yield but after I put them in the ground I was worried I put in way, way too many so now I am glad I did.
I was going to separate as I dug so I knew which variety was which but when you are on your knees in a very muddy garden, such ideas disappear quickly but I am hoping I can find the planting diagram I did make so I can at least identify the last one I brought up last week .
Some planted in a area that for decades was really nothing but a path did very well. Biggest by far with a few lunkers in there.

I dug up the potatoes in the North garden yesterday.
Less than a bushel out of an area approx. 6 x 11.

About two thirds are Purple Peruvian which averaged in size less than the size of an average woman's thumb.
Do not know why the PP this year sent vines out like they were on supper growth drugs.
Even the ones I gave to my Cousin's mom did that. Grumbling

Sadly the the ones that came from the original tuber, 8 or more inches underground gave only three or four at best average size for a PP.
I will be making a lot of dishes this year that use small to tiny potatoes. Blinking

I tip my hat to you.

Hmm, it was only two years ago I bought the Chipperbec, seems like longer than that but I have found as years go by things you think were long time ago , were not, and those that seem like yesterday , were a looong time ago.

Old update, the Chipperbec did produce a goodly amount of usable potatoes tennis ball size , if I remember correctly, may see if I can get some for next year.

The Purple Peruvian are still a weed in the rose garden, especially now that I filled formerly empty space with new roses.
I won't be dealing with potatoes into Oct. this year as I am quite sure the ones still in he ground will soon start turning brown. Hurray!
