Hey y'all, I'm hoping I can get an Orchid identified for a friend. She e-mailed me the three photos below of an orchid that was gifted to her and she had no idea what kind of plant it was. She said that one of her neighbors told her it was an Easter Lily!!! and another said it was a ground orchid. I told her that it is an orchid but didn't look like any ground orchid I'd ever seen and that I'd ask some of my gardening friends here on this site if they could offer suggestions as to the type so that she can properly care for it. I haven't seen it in person but from her photos, it sure looks like a gorgeous plant! Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hi Gina, that's what I told her I thought it was and gave her a link to the general entry in the database for Cymbidium but I wasn't really sure since I'm not all that familiar with orchids.

I agree. I think that it is a cymbidium with bloom half way open!
Just don't expect any one to come up with an exact name. The only one I can think of asking and who might know is our Cymbidium expert, Australis.

Well it certainly looks like a Cymbidium.
Tell her to watch her watering . Those three buds are yellow towards the end of the inflorescence. It could be due to lack of proper water.

Yep, definitely a Cymbidium Orchid. No idea which hybrid, though - if you can get a photo when the flowers are fully open, I may be able to narrow it down a bit, though.
I don't think watering is necessarily an issue, as I'm not seeing any leaf-tip dieback (the plant overall looks healthy). Bud loss at this stage may be due to environmental changes.
